Racing Incident Report

After being boxed, CARACOLER became slightly fractious and momentarily had its off side hind foot caught on the step inside its gate. CARACOLER was released from the stalls, examined by the Veterinary Surgeon who said in his opinion the horse was suitable to race. CARACOLER left the gates awkwardly, then just after the start was checked when crowded between GOOD RECORD and SUPER GOAL STRIKER which on jumping shifted in abruptly. The occurrence was accidental. AUCASH jumped awkwardly, shifted in abruptly and made contact with GONLARGO. ACROBATIC was slowly away. An inquiry into the reason for IDOL being checked and becoming unbalanced at about the 1600 Metres was adjourned until next Sunday at the Happy Valley Race Course. When IDOL checked and shifted ground near the 1600 Metres, inconvenience was caused to GOOD RECORD. Near the winning post, ZIETENGO BOY was tight between ACROBATIC which was closing the race off strongly and IDOL which was shifting in slightly to avoid SUPER GOAL STRIKER. K H Ting (GOOD RECORD) said he had been riding the horse in its work during the week, this was satisfactory and it was anticipated GOOD RECORD would run well today. He said he had been instructed if possible to take up a position somewhere about 4th or 5th. He said in accordance with these instructions he took up a forward position, but was unable to find any cover, GOOD RECORD would not settle and pulled until after the 800 Metres. He said the horse then travelled satisfactorily for only a short distance, but he was aware a long way out GOOD RECORD would not be figuring in the finish. He said in his opinion the reason for the poor run was the manner in which the horse over-raced early and being obliged to race without cover. GOOD RECORD was sent for clinical veterinary examination and testing.
