Racing Incident Report

LUCK AND FORTUNE jumped awkwardly with its head up, shifted out and bumped the hindquarters of FAIR LADY. FULL THROTTLE missed the start. Turning out of the Straight the first time, VICTORY MOUNT was momentarily tight inside NEW CENTURY which got its head on the side and lay in away from DARWIN. Near the 1000 Metres, when DARWIN got to the front and steadied the pace up, NEW CENTURY, which was following, eased and VICTORY MOUNT, which was following NEW CENTURY, was checked. Also near the 1000 Metres, MENTOR raced tight between VICTORY MOUNT and ARROGANCE which improved to a position on the inside of GOOD MAN. No action was taken. When asked about the disappointing performance of ARROGANCE, D Whyte said he was aware the horse may have had a few days off its feed and had missed an intended trial. He said ARROGANCE travelled satisfactorily in the race, but when put under pressure over the concluding stages did not respond and in the run to the winning post was very disappointing. Mr K W Lui, trainer of ARROGANCE, said about two weeks ago the horse had been off its feed for two to three days and had been restricted to light work. He also said the intention was to officially barrier trial ARROGANCE before its race, but because of the problem experienced he was not able to trial the horse as intended. Mr Lui was emphatic the matter did not in any way affect the performance of ARROGANCE today. During the course of this matter, it was established that on 29 December 2001 ARROGANCE had been vaccinated for Equine Influenza and Equine Herpes, then on 2 January 2002 the horse had been vaccinated for Japanese Encephalitis. At the conclusion of the inquiry, Mr Lui was advised that should any matter which may affect the performance of any of his runners come to his attention, he has a responsibility to report it to the Stewards. The run of ARROGANCE today was considered unacceptable and before the horse can race again, it will have to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial and will be required to pass an official veterinary examination. FAIR LADY and NEW CENTURY were sent for clinical veterinary examination and testing. After the race, it was reported HONG KONG VITALITY was significantly lame in its near side hind leg. Before being allowed to race again, HONG KONG VITALITY will have to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial and will be required to pass an official veterinary examination.
