Racing Incident Report
STYLISH was withdrawn on 11.6.02 on veterinary grounds (lame near hind) and replaced by Standby Declared Starter FANTASY (C Williams). Before STYLISH can race again, it will be required to pass an official veterinary examination. PLENTY-PLENTY was withdrawn on raceday morning on veterinary grounds (sore off fore foot). Before being allowed to race again, PLENTY-PLENTY will be required to pass an official veterinary examination. Prior to the declaration of weighed-in, Apprentice S K Sit (GENERAL KINGY) and Mr K W Lui, trainer of the horse, sought permission to view the official video films as they were of the view there may have been grounds to object against VICTORY WARRIOR being declared the winner as a result of the crowding which occurred on the first turn. After they had viewed the available videos, they formed the opinion that on this occasion it would be inappropriate to proceed with a formal objection. Accordingly weighed-in was declared. WISHMASTER left the gates awkwardly and threw its head about. Running to the 1000 Metres, OVATION, which was being ridden along hard in an endeavour to find the lead, got its head on the side and hung in away from VICTORY WARRIOR. As a consequence of this, OVATION bumped GENERAL KINGY, causing that horse to become rather badly unbalanced. The occurrence in the opinion of the Stewards was accidental. No action was taken. Rounding the turn, WINNING COUNTER and VICTORY MARBLE came together. This was due to WINNING COUNTER shifting out and VICTORY MARBLE hanging in. No action was taken. About the 200 Metres, WINNING COUNTER, which had not been travelling well at any stage and at this point of the race was giving ground, was checked when crowded between VICTORY MARBLE which was continuing to hang in and MY HONOUR which was taken out by OVATION (Apprentice K K Lai). Apprentice K K Lai was reprimanded and told he must exercise far more care when shifting ground. Whilst the Stewards considered the riding of M Cahill (RED ZONE) in the run to the line did not affect the horse's finishing position and accordingly a breach of Rule 100(2) did not occur, they did however advise M Cahill he must ride all mounts out at least hands and heels to the end of every race whenever possible. WINNING COUNTER was sent for clinical veterinary examination and testing. After the race, the Veterinary Surgeon reported WINNING COUNTER had sustained a laceration to its off hock.
