Racing Incident Report

SIGHT FIRST, which was somewhat restless after being boxed, bounded in the air when the gates opened and on landing knuckled. CALIFORNIA KID jumped very awkwardly. From a draw towards the outside, JOYFUL MASTER was steadied on leaving the gates and taken across behind runners to take up a position towards the rear but close to the rail. About the 400 Metres, FANTASTICO became unbalanced when momentarily crowded by SOUND LOVER which got its head on the side and momentarily shifted in. Some crowding was also caused to JOYFUL MASTER. C Williams (CALIFORNIA KID) was found guilty of careless riding [Rule 100(1)]. The careless riding being that at about the 200 Metres he permitted his mount to shift out whilst riding along when not clear of SIGHT FIRST. As a consequence of this, SIGHT FIRST was carried out from the running to which it was rightfully entitled, was unnecessarily unbalanced and crowded onto FANTASTICO which was also taken out. SMART WIN, which was following, was checked as a consequence and shifted in abruptly. Inconvenience was also caused to WONDERFUL WIN. C Williams was suspended from riding in races for a period to expire on Thursday 19 September 2002 on which day he may resume race riding (3 Hong Kong race days). The commencement of the suspension was deferred until after the Sha Tin meeting next Saturday 7 September 2002. As FANTASTICO was taken out near the 200 Metres by SIGHT FIRST, SOUND LOVER (K H Ting) shifted in slightly. This resulted in FANTASTICO bumping the hindquarters of SOUND LOVER, turning that horse in, resulting in FANTASTICO being severely checked. The Stewards were not satisfied that K H Ting was fully responsible for the checking to FANTASTICO and accordingly no direct action was taken, however, he was advised to exercise greater care at all times. Throughout the race, FOREVER CHARMING hung out and over the concluding stages tailed off. The performance of FOREVER CHARMING was considered to be unacceptable. Before the horse can race again, it will be required to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial and will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. WELL EXPRESS and QUICK NEWS were sent for sampling.
