Racing Incident Report

ROUND THE WORLD came from the gates awkwardly, as a consequence of this lost ground, was then immediately steadied and shifted across behind runners to take up a position towards the rear but closer to the rail. When the gates opened, SEREVI bounded in the air. On jumping, NOBLE GLORY and SUPER CENTURY came together. Just after the start, BLACK CARBINE and MY HEART came together. Near the winning post the first time, MY HEART was steadied when tightened for room between BLACK CARBINE and WATCH ME WIN. Near the 600 Metres, ARROGANCE and SUPER CENTURY came together. REWARD made the Home Turn awkwardly and commenced to shift out, just after straightening got its head on the side and continued to shift ground. As a consequence of this, SONGS OF PRAISE was bumped onto SUPER CENTURY which was in turn bumped onto the hindquarters of WATCH ME WIN. This resulted in both SONGS OF PRAISE and WATCH ME WIN becoming badly unbalanced and SUPER CENTURY being severely checked. BLACK CARBINE and ROUND THE WORLD, which were following, were checked as a consequence and changed course. The interference was clearly severe, however, the Stewards were of the view it occurred as a result of REWARD making the Home Turn awkwardly and shifting ground. Therefore before REWARD can race again, it will be required to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial around a bend and must pass an official veterinary examination. G Schofield (MY HEART) said just after straightening he had to steady and change course abruptly to avoid the trouble which occurred in front of him. He said after this he was not happy with the way MY HEART was closing the race off and did not ride it out in his normal fashion. After he had viewed the available films, he did acknowledge the horse finished closer up than he thought. In the circumstances, the Stewards decided his riding in the Straight should be accepted, however, before MY HEART can race again, it will be required to pass an official veterinary examination. BLACK CARBINE, ARROGANCE and ROUND THE WORLD were sent for sampling.
