Racing Incident Report

TURF LUCK (H K Yim) left the gates very awkwardly, shifted in and bumped the hindquarters of KING CONFIDENT. As a consequence of this, H K Yim was momentarily unbalanced in the saddle. FRENCH CONNECTION missed the start slightly. Near the 600 Metres, FRENCH CONNECTION (K S Yu) shifted in when not quite clear of VIPER CORP. As a consequence of this, VIPER CORP was steadied and shifted out. K S Yu was reprimanded and told he must exercise more care. Near the 400 Metres, ABLE WIN (A Marcus) shifted out from behind BIA DESERT, in doing so bumped ME AND YOU, causing that horse to become unbalanced, shift ground and bump DIAMOND AND GOLD. A Marcus was severely reprimanded and told he must exercise far more care when shifting ground. The Stewards deferred the declaration of weighed-in. They were of the prima facie view that an incident had occurred near the winning post which cast sufficient doubt on whether ABLE WIN should be declared the winner of the race. They decided there was justification to have the matter resolved formally and openly at a protest/objection hearing (Rule 123). W C Marwing, the rider of BOLD VISION, second placegetter, also lodged a protest/objection against ABLE WIN being declared the winner alleging interference to his mount approaching the winning post. Following the conduct of a formal hearing, the Stewards on all the available evidence were of the opinion that whilst ABLE WIN did shift in near the winning post and bump BOLD VISION, they did not consider, bearing in mind the manner in which the two horses had closed off the race, that BOLD VISION would have finished in front of ABLE WIN had the incident which took place not occurred. Accordingly the objection was overruled and the Judge's placings as semaphored were confirmed. ABLE WIN and BOLD VISION were sent for sampling.
