Racing Incident Report

Mr S Woods, trainer of INDY'S GEM, was fined $2,000 for declaring D Whyte as the rider after being notified by D Whyte that he had a prior commitment for another horse. Permission was given for C Williams to be substituted. Whilst being weighed, FRENCH CONNECTION sustained a mild abrasion to its chest. The horse was examined by the Veterinary Surgeon, trotted up and he then advised in his opinion the horse was suitable to race. Before being presented in the Parade Ring, INDY'S GEM had an adjustment made to a plate. WATCH ME WIN left the gates very awkwardly with its head up. In the early and middle stages, KINGDOM OF GOLD was obliged to race very wide. From a difficult gate, FRENCH CONNECTION was also obliged to race wide, was not able to find any cover and over the concluding stages dropped out. Near the 500 Metres, WAIALAE WIN was steadied and shifted out abruptly to avoid FRENCH CONNECTION. For some distance rounding the Home Turn, PLATINUM EXPRESS was held up behind CUPID, on straightening was shifted out to obtain running and go forward. About the 400 Metres, R Quinn (PLATINUM EXPRESS) dropped his whip. In the early part of the Straight, INDY'S GEM was disappointed for running between MR BASKETBALL and EXPLOSIVE POWER. After this, INDY'S GEM was shifted out to find running and go forward. Near the 200 Metres, LEGEND STAR got its head up when awkwardly placed close to the heels of KINGDOM OF GOLD. After the 200 Metres, RESOURCEFUL PRINCE was steadied and shifted out to avoid CHINESESPORT GLORY. FRENCH CONNECTION was sent for a clinical veterinary examination. After the race, FRENCH CONNECTION was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said an endoscopic examination revealed a significant amount of blood in the horse's trachea. Before FRENCH CONNECTION can race again, it will be required to pass an official veterinary examination. RESOURCEFUL PRINCE was sent for a clinical veterinary examination and sampling. A clinical examination of RESOURCEFUL PRINCE after the race failed to reveal any abnormalities. MILLENNIUM SPIRIT and PLATINUM EXPRESS were sent for sampling.
