Racing Incident Report

On jumping, VICTORY MARBLE bounded in the air and BEST LUCK and KENWOOD MELODY bumped. Also on jumping, ONE STEP AHEAD was bumped by GALLANT KNIGHT which after beginning awkwardly shifted in. Shortly after the start, KENWOOD MELODY was steadied away from the heels of BEST LUCK. In the early stages, SOLID CONTACT hung in and near the 1000 Metres shifted in away from the heels of GENERAL KINGY which had been taken in by VICTORY WARRIOR. This caused crowding to VICTORY MARBLE which was steadied. Also in the early stages, VICTORY MARBLE proved difficult to settle. Near the 900 Metres, GENERAL KINGY, which had been racing one horse off the fence, was bumped on several occasions by SUPER BROSE (F Coetzee) which was shifting across to race outside VICTORY WARRIOR. F Coetzee was reprimanded. Making the turn at the 600 Metres, SUPER BROSE hung out. Shortly after this, SUPER BROSE shifted in, resulting in GALLANT KNIGHT being steadied and shifted out. Making the Home Turn, SUPER BROSE hung in and caused crowding to GENERAL KINGY which as a result became badly unbalanced. SUPER BROSE continued to hang in in the early part of the Straight. F Coetzee said after being placed in the barrier SUPER BROSE was standing badly, he called for assistance from an attendant, however, this took some time to obtain as all the attendants were already assisting other riders. He said the handler who assisted him is an attendant who does not usually help inside the gates. He said when being assisted by the handler, the horse was leaning to the side and consequently when the gates opened SUPER BROSE was slow to begin. He said he therefore immediately commenced to ride his mount along to obtain a forward position, however, he was not able to lead as anticipated on the rail, instead he raced to the outside of VICTORY WARRIOR. He said making the turn after the 600 Metres SUPER BROSE became unbalanced and then in the Straight failed to respond to his riding. He said in his opinion the poor performance of SUPER BROSE could be attributed to having missed the start and then having to be hard ridden to race in a forward position while carrying 133 lbs. Mr A S Cruz, the trainer of SUPER BROSE, said in his opinion the poor performance of the horse was for the same reasons put forward by its rider, F Coetzee. SUPER BROSE was sent for a clinical veterinary examination and sampling. After the race, SUPER BROSE was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said the horse had a cut to the left hind leg and was moderately lame as a result of that injury. Before being allowed to race again, SUPER BROSE will be required to pass an official veterinary examination. GALLANT KNIGHT and KINGSTON WINNER were sent for sampling.
