Racing Incident Report

UNIVERSAL GLORY, BRILLIANT LOT and A CANDY were slow to begin. On jumping, ACCLAMATION shifted out and bumped THE RICH MAN. K H Ting (UNIVERSAL GLORY) pleaded guilty to a charge of reckless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that after being slow to begin, he rode his mount along vigorously with the whip which caused it to improve into a run between MAESTRO and ALL WIN where there was insufficient room passing the winning post on the first occasion, resulting in ALL WIN being hampered and losing its rightful running, and further after this UNIVERSAL GLORY ran onto the heels of NON SEQUITUR, blundered and almost fell. After giving careful consideration to all the circumstances involved in this case, the Stewards believed the appropriate penalty was for K H Ting's licence to be suspended until Thursday 27 February 2003 on which day he may resume race riding (8 Hong Kong race days). This suspension is to take immediate effect. For some distance in the early stages, THE RICH MAN proved difficult to settle. At the 1200 Metres, MAESTRO was crowded for room between THE RICH MAN which got its head up and shifted out and NON SEQUITUR. After the 700 Metres, ACCLAMATION was steadied to avoid the heels of GUSCOTT which shifted to the outside of BRILLIANT LOT as that horse commenced to give ground. At the 600 Metres, BRILLIANT LOT, which was continuing to give ground, and GUSCOTT became unbalanced when crowded by NON SEQUITUR which shifted in momentarily. On straightening, MAESTRO was steadied away from the heels of A CANDY after being bumped by THE RICH MAN. At the 400 Metres, ALL WIN was steadied away from the heels of MAESTRO after being bumped by THE RICH MAN. At the 100 Metres, SUPER WONGCHOY, which was giving ground, was steadied when momentarily crowded by ACCLAMATION which was racing tight inside GUSCOTT which shifted in. The performance of BRILLIANT LOT, which tailed off, was considered unacceptable. Before the horse can race again, it will be required to perform competitively in an official barrier trial and will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. UNIVERSAL GLORY, ACCLAMATION and GUSCOTT were sent for sampling.
