Racing Incident Report

SERIOUS PLAY was withdrawn on 31.1.03 on veterinary grounds (coughing) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter SUPER BLITZ (D Whyte). An endoscopic examination showed there was mucus in the trachea of SERIOUS PLAY. Before the horse can race again, it will be required to pass an official veterinary examination. GREENMORE stood flat-footed at the start and lost considerable ground. Before GREENMORE will be permitted to race again, it must perform satisfactorily in a stalls test. On jumping, SUPER BLITZ and VISORHILL bumped. From a gate towards the outside, HIMALAYA was steadied and shifted across behind runners to a position on the rail. For some distance after straightening, EQUATOR KID was held up and unable to obtain clear running. For some distance after the 100 Metres, HIMALAYA, which was inclined to lay in, was awkwardly placed inside the heels of DIAMOND MOON and because of this at about the 500 Metres was steadied. Inconvenience was caused on the inside of HIMALAYA to FLYING BISHOP and MASCOT TREASURE, both of which were giving ground. Over the concluding stages, EQUATOR KID was awkwardly placed close to the heels of DIAMOND MOON and tight inside SNOWSTORM. Because of this, EQUATOR KID was not ridden out to the line. The Stewards deferred the declaration of weighed-in as they were of the prima facie view that an incident had occurred over the final 100 Metres which cast sufficient doubt on whether DYNAMIC FUN should be declared the winner of the race. They decided there was justification to have the matter resolved formally and openly at a protest/objection hearing (Rule 123). After viewing the official videos of the Home Straight together with Mr I W Allan, trainer of VISORHILL, W C Marwing, the rider of that horse, placed 2dnd, also lodged a protest/objection against DYNAMIC FUN being declared the winner alleging interference to his mount over the final 100 Metres. Following the conduct of a formal hearing, the Stewards on all the available evidence were of the opinion whilst DYNAMIC FUN shifted some ground out near the 75 Metres, brushed VISORHILL and slightly inconvenienced that horse, they did not consider, bearing in mind that DYNAMIC FUN fought back to beat VISORHILL by a neck after being headed by that horse, that VISORHILL would have finished in front of DYNAMIC FUN had the interference which did take place not occurred. Accordingly the Judge's placings as semaphored were confirmed. DYNAMIC FUN and VISORHILL were sent for sampling.
