Racing Incident Report

On jumping, SUPREME RABBIT got its head up. In the early stages, JAZZ BEAT, which was being ridden quietly today, proved difficult to settle and on a number of occasions got its head up. When questioned, S Dye (DYNAMIC FUN) said during the preliminary he was concerned with the action of the horse. He said after arriving at the barriers, he gave the horse a good trot to try and warm it up. He then expressed his concerns over the horse's action to the Veterinary Surgeon positioned at the Start. He said at the time the Veterinary Surgeon examined the horse at the Start, there did not appear to be any abnormality with its action and as such it was passed suitable to race and he expressed his willingness to ride the horse. He said DYNAMIC FUN began well and raced in the lead as it usually does. He said in the early stages he still felt the horse's action was not as it should be and for that reason he allowed DYNAMIC FUN to run along in the hope its action would correct itself. He said DYNAMIC FUN is a naturally free running type of horse and he did not have to place any pressure upon it in the early stages and he was not concerned at the pace he was going. He said at no stage of the race did DYNAMIC FUN's action improve and he pointed out when the horse commenced to give ground at the 700 Metres, it did not do so gradually, but instead weakened rapidly and this was in his opinion indicative of something being amiss with the horse. He said DYNAMIC FUN is a horse well-known to him having ridden it on many occasions in both track work and races and he has on several occasions informed the trainer of his concerns over the action of DYNAMIC FUN when riding it. He did say however he was unable to pinpoint the problem of the horse other than to say in his opinion it existed in the near fore leg. He said although DYNAMIC FUN has on numerous occasions exhibited problem with its action, it had continually performed well in its recent starts and for these reasons he was not unduly concerned prior to today's race. S Dye further added that regardless of the pace at which today's race was run in the early stages, the horse should not have weakened as it did at the 700 Metres. The Stewards received written confirmation of the Veterinary Surgeon at the Start that he had examined DYNAMIC FUN at the request of S Dye. He said the horse trotted up sound and in his opinion was suitable to race. Mr J Size, trainer of DYNAMIC FUN, confirmed that on numerous occasions S Dye had expressed concern to him over the action of DYNAMIC FUN both in track work and in races. He said the horse is regularly examined by his stable Veterinary Surgeon and in fact after having ridden DYNAMIC FUN at track work last Wednesday 26 February 2003, S Dye expressed concerns to him over the action of DYNAMIC FUN and because of this the horse has been examined each day since then without any definite problem being identified. Mr Size pointed out DYNAMIC FUN was subjected to and passed the standard pre-race veterinary examination prior to today's race. He said the horse paraded well prior to today's race despite sweating up slightly, however, this was of no concern to him. He said he had instructed S Dye to ensure he led on DYNAMIC FUN and that he should do so at a good pace as this has always in the past been to DYNAMIC FUN's benefit and to the detriment of the opposition. Mr Size said he was not concerned at the pace of today's race in the early stages and he said the speed DYNAMIC FUN was going was not relevant to the horse's performance in the circumstances of today's race. DYNAMIC FUN was sent for a clinical veterinary examination and sampling. Following the race, DYNAMIC FUN was examined by the Veterinary Surgeon. At this time he was not able to find any significant findings. The Stewards advised Mr Size and S Dye that before this matter was concluded they would await the results of further examinations to be carried out on DYNAMIC FUN. Mr Size gave an undertaking that he would not enter DYNAMIC FUN in a race until this matter is concluded. EQUATOR KID and MINE HOST were sent for sampling.
Additional Veterinary Report (released on 3 Mar. 2003) :
After this race, DYNAMIC FUN, which performed poorly, was examined by the Veterinary Surgeon who said at that time he was not able to find any significant findings. DYNAMIC FUN was again examined by the Veterinary Surgeon yesterday at the stables of Trainer J Size. It was noted the horse was lame in the left fore leg. Before being permitted to race again, DYNAMIC FUN will be required to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial and will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

Trainer J Size will be further interviewed regarding this matter at the Sha Tin Racecourse next Sunday 9 March 2003. Mr Size has today again confirmed his understanding not to enter DYNAMIC FUN in a race until after this matter is concluded.
