Racing Incident Report

DON SEBASTIAN was withdrawn on 18.4.03 on veterinary grounds (lame left fore leg) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter EXULTATION (K C Tsang). Before being permitted to race again, DON SEBASTIAN will be required to pass an official veterinary examination. INDUSTRIAL PRIDE was slow to begin. NORTHERN FLYER began awkwardly, got its head up and became unbalanced. STRATEGIC SELECT, which was to be ridden in a rearward position from the outside barrier, was immediately steadied on jumping and shifted across behind runners closer to the fence. In the early stages, EXULTATION proved difficult to settle. After the 600 Metres, EXULTATION became unbalanced when being shifted to the outside of ABLE WIN to improve, then near the 200 Metres was shifted to the outside of GOOD NEWS into clear running. On straightening, INDUSTRIAL PRIDE was steadied when unable to obtain clear running between NORTHERN FLYER and FAST RUNNER which was giving ground. STRATEGIC SELECT was sent for a clinical veterinary examination. After the race, STRATEGIC SELECT was examined by the Veterinary Officer. No significant findings were made. SAGACIOUS, SILVERBIRD and ARMONDO were sent for sampling.
