Racing Incident Report

PALETTE NATURAL began awkwardly, causing S Dye, its rider, to become unbalanced. MY CHIEF was slow to begin. On jumping, ABLE MARSHALL and STRATEGUS bumped, also ASALI and MADE TO FIGURE bumped. From the outside barrier, CLASSA WIN was immediately steadied on jumping and shifted across behind runners closer to the rail but with the rear. In the middle stages, MY CHIEF hung in. On straightening, ZIETENGO BOY, which was giving ground, was steadied away from the heels of ONE MORE ROUND which was carried wider by CLASSA WIN which shifted out after being bumped by PALETTE NATURAL which shifted out making the turn. Near the 200 Metres, PALETTE NATURAL, which was being shifted out to obtain clear running, was momentarily steadied when close to the heels of MADE TO FIGURE. G Mossé (ZIETENGO BOY) pleaded guilty to a charge of misconduct in that at about the 100 Metres he reached out his right arm and placed his whip on or in the vicinity of the left leg of W C Marwing (BOBO DUCK). After considering all the circumstances of this case, the Stewards were of the view the appropriate penalty was for G Mossé be fined a sum of $10,000. W C Marwing said he had ridden BOBO DUCK in track work leading up to tonight's race, this work in his opinion was good and because of this he accepted to ride BOBO DUCK in preference to TRICCOLO. He said he had been instructed to ride BOBO DUCK in a forward position, accordingly he went forward from the start, was unable to obtain cover and raced three wide. He said passing the 1000 Metres he was concerned BOBO DUCK did not appear to be striding out as it should and in his opinion this was because the horse was not comfortable on tonight's rain affected track. He said at no stage after this did BOBO DUCK travel for him and it commenced to give ground after the 600 Metres. He said following the race BOBO DUCK appeared normal in its action and in his opinion the horse's poor performance was attributable to tonight's track conditions. BOBO DUCK was sent for a clinical veterinary examination. A veterinary examination of BOBO DUCK after the race did not show any significant findings. The performance of BOBO DUCK was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, BOBO DUCK will be required to perform competitively in an official barrier trial and will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. ABLE MARSHALL and TRICCOLO were sent for sampling.
