Racing Incident Report

On entering the track, Apprentice M W Leung was dislodged from GETMORE DANCER. When the gates opened, GRANDIOSO got its head up, then began awkwardly and consequently lost ground. GOOD WIN began awkwardly, shifted out and made contact with FIRST KNIGHT. ALWAYS ZIETEN was slow to begin. On jumping, WING FOOT and SPEED OF LIGHT bumped. After this, WING FOOT shifted out and caused some inconvenience to ACCLAMATION. In the early and middle stages, ACCLAMATION, which was being ridden at the rear, proved very difficult to settle and on a number of occasions got its head up when awkwardly placed close to the heels of WING FOOT. Near the 1200 Metres, A Marcus (WING FOOT) momentarily dropped his right side rein when pulling the whip through into his left hand. Making the turn near the 600 Metres, GETMORE DANCER shifted out when hanging. When this happened, GRANDIOSO improved inside GETMORE DANCER. Then at the 600 Metres, GRANDIOSO was checked when crowded for room inside GETMORE DANCER which shifted back in when racing tight inside MEDIT KING which in turn was awkwardly placed inside the heels of CHING HOI BOY. In the circumstances, no action was taken. When GRANDIOSO checked, inconvenience was also caused to ACCLAMATION. In the early part of the Straight, CHINA BOOM hung in, near the 300 Metres shifted ground and caused some inconvenience to WING FOOT. Near the 100 Metres, ALWAYS ZIETEN was shifted to the outside of GOOD WIN to continue improving. Mr D Hill, the trainer of FIRST KNIGHT, explained he had instructed W M Lai to jump the horse, which had previously been tardy to begin, as cleanly as possible, ride it along for a short distance and then allow it to settle where it was comfortable. He said today FIRST KNIGHT began nicely and when being ridden to these instructions raced in a more forward position than is usual. He went on to say today's improved performance compared with the horse's last start could be attributed to that race being run on rain affected ground which the horse had shown a dislike for. GRANDIOSO was sent for a clinical veterinary examination. After the race, GRANDIOSO was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said the horse was lame in the left hind leg and had sustained a laceration to the pastern on this leg. Before being allowed to race again, GRANDIOSO will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. FIRST KNIGHT and THE ONLY ONE were sent for sampling. After the race, it was reported MEDIT KING had bled from both nostrils and CHINA BOOM had lost its left hind plate.
