Racing Incident Report

When being weighed prior to the race, DILIGENT spread its right fore plate. The horse was re-shod and examined by the Veterinary Surgeon who said in his opinion it was suitable to race. On jumping, SPARKY got its head up and shortly afterwards was steadied when crowded for room between DELIGHTFUL WIN which shifted out and CHINOOK which was taken in slightly by WINNING DRAGON. Also on jumping, PERFECT MISSION bounded in the air. GREEN CENTURY was slow to begin. WINNING DRAGON was held up for clear running in the early part of the Straight and approaching the 200 Metres was disappointed for running between ALL THE BEST and DELIGHTFUL WIN. W Woods (TRIUMPHANT MASTER) was found guilty of a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that near the 300 Metres he permitted his mount to shift out when not clear of PERFECT MISSION, causing that horse to be crowded for room, strike the heels of MAGIC MAIL, blunder and almost fall. In the circumstances of this case, the Stewards believed the appropriate penalty was for W Woods to be suspended from riding in races for a period to expire on Monday 19 January 2004 on which day he may resume race riding (5 Hong Kong race days). The commencement of the suspension was deferred until after the Sha Tin meeting on Thursday 1 January 2004. DELIGHTFUL WIN hung in under pressure passing the 200 Metres and near the 50 Metres was steadied away from the heels of ALL THE BEST. Over the concluding stages, CHINOOK was unable to obtain clear running and consequently was not ridden out as it normally would be. Throughout the race, MAGIC MAIL raced wide and without cover, in the early and middle stages proved difficult to settle, then in the Home Straight hung in. MAGIC MAIL was sent for a clinical veterinary examination. After the race, MAGIC MAIL was examined by the Veterinary Officer. No abnormalities were detected. WINNING DRAGON, THE ACHIEVER and TRIUMPHANT MASTER were sent for sampling. After the race, D Whyte (DELIGHTFUL WIN) expressed concern over the horse's action. The horse was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said there were no significant findings.
Additional Veterinary Reports (released on 29 December 2003)
After the race, D Whyte expressed concern over the action of DELIGHTFUL WIN. The horse was examined by the Senior Veterinary Officer who said at that time there were no significant findings. DELIGHTFUL WIN was again examined by the Senior Veterinary Officer at the stables of Trainer J Moore last Saturday and at this time was noted to be moving stiffly with generalized muscle soreness. Before being allowed to race again, DELIGHTFUL WIN will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
