Racing Incident Report

WADADELIGHT was withdrawn on 3.2.04 on veterinary grounds (lame right hind) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter ORIENTAL (G Schofield). Before being allowed to race again, WADADELIGHT will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. JOHNNY JUMP UP began awkwardly, shifted in and bumped the hindquarters of SOLINUS, then shortly afterwards became unbalanced and was steadied away from the heels of SOLINUS after being bumped by ACCLAMATION which shifted in. Shortly after the start, SOARING ANGEL, SUNNY DESERT and QUICK STEP were crowded for room between TURBOJET and MADE IN HONGKONG which on jumping shifted out abruptly. After passing the winning post on the first occasion, TOUCH DOWN was momentarily awkwardly placed inside the heels of SOARING ANGEL. Near the 1300 Metres, TOUCH DOWN, SUNNY DESERT and ACCLAMATION raced tight. Making the turn near the 1000 Metres, SOARING ANGEL, which was racing tight inside the hindquarters of TURBOJET, brushed the running rail and became unbalanced. Near the 900 Metres, TOUCH DOWN became unbalanced when awkward inside the hindquarters of ORIENTAL. For some distance near the 400 Metres, ORIENTAL was held up when awkwardly placed close to the heels of SOLINUS which was giving ground. After the 400 Metres, ORIENTAL was shifted to the inside of SOLINUS to obtain clear running. This caused some inconvenience to QUICK STEP. Near the 200 Metres, SOARING ANGEL, which was commencing to give ground, was brushed and carried wider as TOUCH DOWN shifted to the outside of MADE IN HONGKONG into clear running. At the same time, ORIENTAL was steadied and shifted to the outside of SOARING ANGEL into clear running. After the 200 Metres, ELITE WIN was carried wider by SUNNY DESERT which shifted out away from TURBOJET. JOHNNY JUMP UP, which was following ELITE WIN and hanging in, was steadied away from the heels of that horse. Also after the 200 Metres, QUICK STEP was steadied and shifted to the outside of MADE IN HONGKONG to obtain clear running. Over the concluding stages, ORIENTAL got its head on the side and lay in. ELITE WIN, which for the major part of the race had travelled wide and without cover, was sent for a clinical veterinary examination. A veterinary examination of ELITE WIN after the race did not reveal any significant findings. ORIENTAL, TOUCH DOWN and QUICK STEP were sent for sampling.
