Racing Incident Report

When the gates opened, FOUR ACES got its head up, bounded in the air, shifted in and made contact with the hindquarters of CLASSA FOR EVER. When CLASSA FOR EVER jumped, the whip of Apprentice H W Lai, the horse's rider, became entangled in the front gates of the stall. As a result, Apprentice Lai lost the whip at the start. On jumping, SIGHT CHAMPION was bumped by UPBEAT which shifted out. GREEN TREASURE was slow to begin. ABORIGINAL was slow to muster speed at the start. For some distance approaching and passing the 800 Metres, DOUBLE HAPPINESS was awkwardly placed inside the heels of ROMAN BOY. Making the turn after the 800 Metres, AFRICAN FOREST hung out. Making the Home Turn, COLOURFUL ERA hung out. On straightening, ONE MORE ROUND shifted out away from DOUBLE HAPPINESS which itself was shifting out and clipped the heels of ROMAN BOY which at this time shifted in marginally. As a result of this, ONE MORE ROUND blundered and dislodged its rider, Apprentice P H Lo. In the opinion of the Stewards, this incident was accidental. At the 400 Metres, GREEN TREASURE became unbalanced after being bumped by LUCKY MARAUDING which was shifting to the outside of UPBEAT to obtain clear running. Near the 300 Metres, DOUBLE HAPPINESS was steadied when disappointed for running between AFRICAN FOREST and ROMAN BOY, both of which shifted ground. Near the 200 Metres, C Williams (SIGHT CHAMPION) dropped his whip. When questioned, T Mundry, the rider of AFRICAN FOREST, said near the 600 Metres he struck the horse down the left side of its neck with his whip in an attempt to have the horse straighten and race more truly. T Mundry was told whilst this time the Stewards could not be satisfied his whip had come into contact with the head of AFRICAN FOREST, he should refrain from using the whip in the manner in which he did on this occasion unless absolutely necessary. DOUBLE HAPPINESS was sent for a clinical veterinary examination and sampling. UPBEAT was sent for a clinical veterinary examination. A veterinary examination of DOUBLE HAPPINESS and UPBEAT after the race did not show any significant findings. LUCKY MARAUDING and CLASSA FOR EVER were sent for sampling.
Additional Veterinary Reports (released on 10 May 2004)
DOUBLE HAPPINESS, which performed poorly, was examined by the Senior Veterinary Officer. He said at that time there were no significant findings. DOUBLE HAPPINESS was again examined by the Head of Veterinary Regulation & International Liaison at the stables of Trainer D A Hayes yesterday morning. He said at this time the horse was found to be lame in the right front leg. Before being allowed to race again, DOUBLE HAPPINESS will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
