Racing Incident Report

EXPLOSIVE POWER, second Standby Declared Starter, was withdrawn on 4.6.04 on veterinary grounds (lame left fore limb). Before being allowed to race again, EXPLOSIVE POWER will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. BEAR DOMINANCE was slow to begin. WINNING RONGRONG began awkwardly, shifted in, bumped the hindquarters of ABLE WIN and as a consequence lost ground. FORTUNE DANCER was slow to begin. Making the turn near the 1400 Metres, FORTUNE BOY, which had been racing ungenerously, got its head up when being steadied while awkwardly placed between PEAK POWER and ABLE WIN which at this time shifted out slightly. GOLDEN MAPLE, which was following, was inconvenienced in consequence. No action was taken. Near the 1300 Metres, NATURAL ECHO was steadied when awkwardly placed outside FORTUNE DANCER and inside the heels of GOLDEN MAPLE. Making the turn near the 1200 Metres, FORTUNE BOY hung out. Near the 900 Metres, GOLDEN MAPLE was hampered and carried wider by FORTUNE BOY which had been steadied away from the heels of PEAK POWER which got its head up and shifted out. After this, FORTUNE BOY and GOLDEN MAPLE were allowed to stride forward. Shortly after straightening, AHEAD A HEAD got its head up and shifted out. A Marcus (WINNING RONGRONG) explained he had intended to ride the horse in the box seat, however, after not beginning well he then elected immediately to follow ARROGANCE which he anticipated would follow the leader. He said at no stage of the race did WINNING RONGRONG which was having its first start on the All Weather Track feel comfortable. He said prior to the 600 Metres he was under pressure to hold his position and the horse did not respond to his riding in the Straight and gave ground. The only explanation for the performance of WINNING RONGRONG A Marcus put forward was that the horse did not appear to be suited racing on this surface at the first time of asking. WINNING RONGRONG was sent for a clinical veterinary examination. After the race, WINNING RONGRONG was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said there were no significant findings. ARROGANCE, AHEAD A HEAD and GOLDEN MAPLE were sent for sampling.
