Racing Incident Report

NORTHERNER, which was leaning against the inside of its stall, began awkwardly. DASHING WINNER and EARL GREY were slow to begin. On jumping, ELEPHANT DANCE and KIDDY SING bumped. Near the 1600 Metres, EARL GREY was checked when crowded for room inside KIDDY SING which got its head on the side and shifted in slightly away from CONNOISSEUR'S LOVE which itself at this time got its head on the side and shifted in away from NORTHERNER which shifted in slightly. Whilst the check to EARL GREY was of some significance, the Stewards believed in the circumstances it was inappropriate for any action to be taken. A Delpech (DASHING CHAMPION) was found guilty of a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that after passing the winning post on the first occasion he allowed his mount to shift in when not clear of COUNTRY BOY, causing that horse to be carried in and in turn caused crowding on its inside to ELEPHANT DANCE which as a result bumped the running rail, became unbalanced and lost running to which it was rightfully entitled. KIDDY SING, which was following, was checked in consequence. A Delpech was suspended from riding in races for a period to expire on Sunday 31 October 2004 on which day he may resume race riding (2 Hong Kong racedays). The commencement of this suspension is deferred until after the Happy Valley racemeeting next Saturday 23 October 2004. In addition, A Delpech was fined $25,000 in lieu of a suspension for a period incorporating one further raceday. Making the turn at the 600 Metres, ELEPHANT DANCE became unbalanced, then prior to straightening hung out when awkwardly placed inside the heels of COUNTRY BOY. NORTHERNER made the Home Turn awkwardly and shifted wider on the track. About the 50 Metres, CONNOISSEUR'S LOVE was momentarily steadied away from the heels of ENTERTAINING which shifted in when not quite clear. D Whyte (COSMO SUCCESS) explained the horse, which was wearing a blindfold, after being loaded initially stood satisfactorily, however, prior to the start being effected the horse sat back, then on jumping bounded in the air, took some time to muster speed and consequently raced further back than intended. He said after this it was obliged to race three wide and without cover for a significant part of the race. COSMO SUCCESS was sent for an official veterinary inspection and sampling. A veterinary inspection of COSMO SUCCESS after the race did not show any significant findings. DASHING CHAMPION and DASHING WINNER were sent for sampling.
