Racing Incident Report

HARVEY MUDD and BEAUTIFUL SUNDAY began awkwardly. AMAZING, with the intention to be ridden in a rearward position from its wide barrier, got its head up on jumping, causing W Woods, its rider, to become unbalanced. As a consequence, AMAZING lost a significant amount of ground. Approaching the 800 Metres, STRAWBERRY KISSES got its head up and proved difficult to settle. Making the turn at the 800 Metres, GREAT IDEA was steadied when crowded for room inside BEAUTIFUL SUNDAY (G Mossé) which shifted in away from ALL FIT. G Mossé was advised to exercise more care. After the 400 Metres, BEAUTY PLUS was steadied when crowded for room between GREAT IDEA and HARVEY MUDD, both of which shifted ground. Throughout the race, HARVEY MUDD raced wide and without cover. W Woods (AMAZING) said in the Home Straight he had been instructed by Mr D E Ferraris, trainer of the horse, to remain towards the inside and attempt to find runs through the field. He said shortly after straightening he had been following MASTER YING and when the rider of that horse looked down he shifted to its outside as he was of the belief something might have been amiss with it. He said after this SUPER PRINCE shifted in, causing him to be disappointed for running on the inside of that horse. He said then for the remainder of the race he was not able to obtain clear running and in the run to the winning post was steadied away from the heels of BEAUTY PLUS. He said because he could not obtain clear running in the Home Straight, at no stage was he able to properly test AMAZING. Mr D E Ferraris, trainer of AMAZING, said he had instructed the horse to be ridden back and close to the fence if possible because in the past it had shown a tendency to prove difficult to settle. He said in his opinion if AMAZING were left racing without cover, it would certainly have been detrimental to the horse's chances. He expressed satisfaction with the manner in which AMAZING had been ridden because of the instructions he had issued. K S Yu (MASTER YING) explained near the 600 Metres his mount became unbalanced behind. He said he looked over his left shoulder as he was of the opinion another runner might have been on his heels. He said shortly after straightening MASTER YING again became unbalanced behind and he looked down to its hind legs to ascertain if anything was amiss. MASTER YING was sent for an official veterinary inspection. After the race, MASTER YING was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said there was no significant finding, however, he noted the bandage fitted to the horse's right hind leg had loosened and was trailing. The performance of MASTER YING was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, MASTER YING will have to perform competitively in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. DRAGON HORSE was sent for an official veterinary inspection. After the race, DRAGON HORSE was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said an endoscopic examination showed a significant amount of blood in the horse's trachea. The performance of DRAGON HORSE was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, DRAGON HORSE will have to perform competitively in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. SHOGUN and BRAVE KNIGHT were sent for sampling.
