Racing Incident Report

After arriving at the barriers, ABLE KNIGHT, which kicked a rail on the way to the Start, was examined by the Veterinary Surgeon. He said the horse was suitable to race. JOYFUL SPIRIT and HIMALAYA began awkwardly. DR MORE and PRECISION were slow to begin. Shortly after the start, JOYFUL SPIRIT was checked to avoid the heels of GOOD PROFIT which itself was steadied and shifted out away from the heels of FLORAL DYNAMITE which shifted out. Near the 1300 Metres, PACKING ANGEL was checked when crowded for room inside LUCKY PARADISE which was carried in slightly by SUMMERLAND which shifted in away from SAMBUCA (D Dunn) after initially being carried in by that horse. In the circumstances, having in mind the contribution of SUMMERLAND to this incident, the Stewards believed it was appropriate for D Dunn to be severely reprimanded. From shortly after straightening until after the 100 Metres, HIMALAYA was unable to obtain clear running and as such was not able to improve. Over about the final 250 Metres, GOOD PROFIT was not able to obtain clear running initially between LIBERAL'S CHOICE and FLORAL DYNAMITE, then between FLORAL DYNAMITE and PACKING ANGEL. Because of this, GOOD PROFIT was not tested. When giving ground over the concluding stages, LIBERAL'S CHOICE was inclined to lay in and was steadied away from the heels of SAMBUCA. Over the concluding stages, PACKING ANGEL was steadied when close to the heels of PRECISION and SUMMERLAND. Because of this, PACKING ANGEL was not ridden out to the end of the race as it normally would be. When questioned regarding the improved performance of GREAT DELIGHT today as opposed to its last start, Trainer J Size said today racing over the increased distance of 1600 Metres GREAT DELIGHT was able to obtain an uncontested lead at a tempo which was suitable. He did point out GREAT DELIGHT had only raced once previously over 1600 Metres in Hong Kong and it finished 4th on that occasion. He said in the horse's recent starts over 1400 Metres it had led but had been pressured to do so. He said last start the horse gave ground noticeably after being challenged in the Home Straight. Mr Size said the sole reason he could attribute to the improved performance of GREAT DELIGHT today was it was able to dictate the tempo of the race. SAMBUCA, GREAT DELIGHT and LUCKY PARADISE were sent for sampling.
