Racing Incident Report

ABLE PRINCE began very awkwardly and lost ground at the start. RAIDER was slow to begin. Shortly after the start, PLANET RULER was checked when crowded for room inside GREAT DELIGHT which on jumping got its head on the side and shifted in abruptly despite the efforts of its rider. Also shortly after the start, PALETTE NATURAL was checked when crowded for room inside SCINTILLATION which shifted in away from GREAT DELIGHT. After the 900 Metres, KEY TO SUCCESS was checked severely when crowded for room inside PALETTE NATURAL which at this time commenced to over-race, got its head up and shifted in abruptly when being steadied away from the heels of HIGH INTELLIGENT. RAIDER, which was following KEY TO SUCCESS, was checked in consequence. Although the incident was one of some significance, in the circumstances the Stewards did not believe it was appropriate that any action be taken. Making the turn at the 800 Metres, MERIDIAN STAR got its head up when crowded for room inside PLANET RULER which shifted in away from PALETTE NATURAL. At the 300 Metres, SELF FLIT, which was giving ground, became unbalanced when crowded for room inside ABLE PRINCE which got its head on the side and shifted in. After the 200 Metres, BLUE STITCH was steadied and shifted to the inside of PALETTE NATURAL. C Soumillon (ABLE PRINCE) said whilst the horse is usually on the toe before the race, it appeared to be more so today. He said ABLE PRINCE did not begin well, causing him to bump his right leg against the barrier. He said after this ABLE PRINCE was always off the bridle and was never comfortable in the run. He said shortly after straightening when placed under pressure ABLE PRINCE hung in and in his opinion at this stage of its preparation it did not run out the 1400 Metres of today's race. B Prebble (MERIDIAN STAR) said after losing his position near the 800 Metres the horse did not appear comfortable. He said in the Straight whilst he had some difficulty obtaining clear running, in the circumstances of today's race this did not impact greatly on the horse's finishing effort. D Whyte (SCINTILLATION) explained the horse travelled comfortably throughout, however, failed to quicken when asked after straightening. He was unable to offer any explanation for the performance of the horse and said its work leading into today's race had been good. SCINTILLATION was sent for an official veterinary examination and sampling. After the race, SCINTILLATION was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said an endoscopic examination showed some mucus and blood in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, SCINTILLATION will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. FIGURES was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of FIGURES after the race did not show any significant findings. HIGH INTELLIGENT and PLANET RULER were sent for sampling.
