Racing Incident Report

MAGIC TEMPLE and MODERN PROSPECT were slow to begin. After the 1400 Metres, NOBLE WIND, which was racing wide and without cover, was steadied and shifted across behind runners. At the 600 Metres, MAGIC TEMPLE was steadied when awkwardly placed between the heels of ELEPHANT DANCE and SUPER WONGCHOY. SMART HORSE, which was following MAGIC TEMPLE, was checked and shifted out to avoid the heels of that horse. This in turn caused THE KING to be carried out towards the heels of FREEBIRD and steadied. Approaching the 200 Metres, A Delpech (NEW MILESTONE) momentarily dropped his left rein. After the 200 Metres, FREEBIRD was steadied when crowded for room between DOUBLE HAPPINESS and ELEPHANT DANCE which shifted out. Close to the winning post, TIRAMISU and NEW MILESTONE bumped as a result of NEW MILESTONE shifting in. Making the turns, ELEPHANT DANCE hung out. Throughout the race, CZAR OF PRUSSIA raced wide and without cover. Y T Cheng (FREEBIRD) said he had been instructed to lead if possible, if not be as far forward as he was able. He said FREEBIRD began only fairly, he then rode along to be in a forward position, however, after passing the winning post on the first occasion he ceased riding along as the horse has a history of hanging out badly. He said FREEBIRD again hung out today making the turns and near the 900 Metres was steadied away from the heels of DOUBLE HAPPINESS which shifted in when only just clear. He said when this occurred FREEBIRD was reluctant to hold its position and gave ground. He said when making the turn after the 600 Metres FREEBIRD continued to give ground when hanging. He said as a consequence of this FREEBIRD got further back than he had intended. G Schofield (THE KING) said it had been intended to ride the horse in the first four if possible. He said TIRAMISU and FREEBIRD which were drawn to his inside were two of the horses he felt would be in the first three. He said on jumping THE KING was bumped by FREEBIRD, he attempted to allow FREEBIRD to go forward of him and shift in to a position following that horse, believing he would be in a position to carry out his riding instructions. He said making the first turn FREEBIRD did not hold its forward position and as he had runners improving around his outside he was obliged to come back with that horse. He said throughout the race FREEBIRD continually gave ground in front of him, however, he was unable to shift to the outside of that horse to improve his position and consequently ended up with the rear on straightening. He did say after the 600 Metres he attempted to improve to the inside of FREEBIRD which at this time shifted out, however, as a result of being hampered at that time he had to steady away from the heels of FREEBIRD. THE KING was sent for an official veterinary inspection and sampling. DOUBLE HAPPINESS was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of THE KING and DOUBLE HAPPINESS after the race did not show any significant findings. SUPER WONGCHOY, KING OF WIN and TIRAMISU were sent for sampling.
Additional Veterinary Reports (released on 7 March 2005)
DOUBLE HAPPINESS, which performed poorly, was examined by the Senior Veterinary Officer. He said at that time there were no significant findings. DOUBLE HAPPINESS was again examined by the Head of Veterinary Regulation & International Liaison at the stables of Trainer D A Hayes yesterday morning. He said at this time he noted the horse to be lame in the right front leg. Before being allowed to race again, DOUBLE HAPPINESS will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
