Racing Incident Report

When the gates opened, SUPREMACY lifted its front feet off the ground, on landing sprawled and consequently was slow to begin. CHOICE AND CHANCE was slow to begin. SUPERB began awkwardly and bumped the outside gate of its stall. MIRACLE DRAGON was a little slow to begin. Despite being ridden along in the early stages, SUPERSONIC failed to muster speed and got well back. At the 1000 Metres, GLORY YEARS (C Brown) shifted in, causing LASER POWER to be carried in slightly when not properly clear of SUPERB which after being crowded for room commenced to race ungenerously, shifted out and was checked to avoid the heels of LASER POWER. A-TACK, SUPERSONIC, MIRACLE DRAGON and CHOICE AND CHANCE, which were following, were checked in consequence. While the Stewards accepted SUPERB had contributed to the incident by the manner in which it was racing, they nonetheless reprimanded C Brown and advised him to exercise more care. On straightening, SUPREMACY was bumped on the hindquarters by GOLDEN STRIDE. After this, SUPREMACY hung in and proved difficult to ride. Approaching the 200 Metres, when beginning to close the race off, MIRACLE DRAGON was awkwardly placed behind A-TACK. Then near the winning post, MIRACLE DRAGON was inclined to hang out and became unbalanced. When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of MILLION CHASE, G Mossé said he had been instructed from a wide barrier to if possible obtain cover with the horse as it had in the past shown an inclination to race fiercely when unable to obtain cover. He said MILLION CHASE began very well and for this reason he was unable to obtain cover, proved difficult to settle and consequently raced wide and without cover in the early and middle stages. He said MILLION CHASE commenced to give ground from the 600 Metres and in the Straight weakened badly. He further said in his opinion the fact that he was unable to obtain cover was the sole reason for the disappointing performance of the horse. SUPERSONIC and MILLION CHASE were sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of SUPERSONIC and MILLION CHASE after the race did not show any significant findings. LASER POWER and GLORY YEARS were sent for sampling.
