Racing Incident Report

During the preliminary, D Whyte was dislodged from PACIFIC ALLIANCE. PACIFIC ALLIANCE was quickly recaptured and taken to the Start where it was examined by the Veterinary Surgeon who said in his opinion it was suitable to race. As the start was effected, DURABLE, which had been fractious and was being assisted by a gate attendant, put its head down, then sat back, resulting in C Brown, its rider, becoming unbalanced and momentarily taking hold with his right hand of the adjoining barrier partition. Because of DURABLE's fractiousness as the start was effected, the horse lost a considerable amount of ground. Before being allowed to race again, DURABLE will have to perform satisfactorily in a stalls test. When the gates opened, NOBLE BOSS stood flat-footed and lost a considerable amount of ground. Before being allowed to race again, NOBLE BOSS will have to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial. ACCELERATION was slow to begin. Shortly after the start, SUPER DANA was bumped by MILLION SUCCESS. Making the first turn, SHOW BRAVELY got its head up when crowded for room inside MEMBERS GLORY which itself was racing tight inside STAR OF NORTHERN. Also making the first turn, ACCELERATION was steadied when crowded for room between COTTON BALL and MAXIMUS which shifted out. Near the 1600 Metres, MILLION SUCCESS got its head up when being steadied away from the heels of TRAVEL LEADER. From shortly after straightening until after the 300 Metres, MILLION SUCCESS was held up and unable to improve when following TRAVEL LEADER and racing inside SUPER DANA. From shortly after the 400 Metres, NOBLE BOSS was held up and unable to improve between ACCELERATION and SPECTACULAR HIT. To obtain clear running, NOBLE BOSS near the 200 Metres was shifted to the outside of ACCELERATION. Near the 300 Metres, MEMBERS GLORY, which had been unable to obtain clear running, was steadied and shifted to the outside of PACIFIC ALLIANCE to go forward. Approaching and passing the 300 Metres, MAXIMUS was held up and unable to obtain clear running. Over the concluding stages, NOBLE BOSS hung in, after the 100 Metres made contact with ACCELERATION, then near the winning post shifted out abruptly and because of this was not ridden out to the end of the race as it normally would be. C Munce (COTTON BALL) explained after being boxed the horse became fractious and when the gates opened after beginning well was slow to muster speed despite his riding. He said he had intended to ride COTTON BALL in a forward position or in the lead, however, he was not able to do so because of the manner in which the horse was travelling. He said as a consequence COTTON BALL raced three wide without cover and in the middle stages because of the pace of the race he elected to go forward steadily rather than ride his mount along and cross to the lead as in his opinion it would have been detrimental to have do so. He said in the Straight COTTON BALL gave ground because of the run it had endured. COTTON BALL was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of COTTON BALL after the race did not show any significant findings. MILLION SUCCESS and MEMBERS GLORY were sent for sampling.
