Racing Incident Report

When being saddled, it was noted ACCOLADE had shifted its left front plate. This plate was reset and ACCOLADE was examined by the Veterinary Surgeon who said in his opinion it was suitable to race. CHOICE AND CHANCE began awkwardly and lost ground. ACCOLADE was slow to begin. Near the 800 Metres, MILLION CHASE was steadied to avoid the heels of PRIME MOVER which shifted in when barely clear. Shortly after this, HARVEY MUDD, which was awkwardly placed inside the heels of PRIME MOVER, got its head on the side, shifted in and was steadied away from the heels of RACING SPIRIT. After this and again at the 600 Metres, PRIME MOVER shifted out and bumped SOUTHERN LIGHT heavily which as a result was hampered and carried wider. Mr D Oughton, the trainer of PRIME MOVER, was told a warning would be placed on the horse for its racing manners. Making the turn at the 600 Metres, ACCOLADE hung out. At the 400 Metres, HARVEY MUDD was steadied when close to the heels of RACING SPIRIT. MILLION CHASE made the Home Turn awkwardly and shifted out. Shortly after straightening, RACING SPIRIT was steadied and shifted out away from the heels of JADE DANCER. Near the 200 Metres, HARVEY MUDD shifted in when being ridden out, then in the run to the line was awkwardly placed close to the heels of PEACH BLOSSOM. Over the concluding stages, FLYING DAGGER hung out. When questioned regarding his riding of WAIT FOR ME, W M Lai said he had been instructed to allow the horse which was having its first race start to stride along and in the Straight ensure the horse closed the race off as best as possible. He said WAIT FOR ME began only fairly, did not show sufficient pace to obtain a forward position and got back to be racing three wide with the rear outside ACCOLADE. He said coming to the turn at the 600 Metres he elected to steady WAIT FOR ME and shift across to race on the rail as in his opinion horses racing in this position were best suited having in mind the results of the first two races. He said WAIT FOR ME did not respond when ridden along hands and heels prior to straightening, then early in the Straight hung in and shifted towards the rail. He said near the 250 Metres he shifted WAIT FOR ME wider in an endeavour to ensure it had clear running, however, it continued to hang in and because of this he rode the horse out hands and heels rather than using the whip. He did say WAIT FOR ME closed the race off fairly despite the manner in which it was racing in the Home Straight. Mr C H Yip, trainer of WAIT FOR ME, confirmed the instructions and said the horse has been somewhat slow in coming to hand. He said WAIT FOR ME has had two barrier trials prior to tonight's debut, the second of which when wearing blinkers was more impressive. He said the distance of tonight's race in his opinion was too short for WAIT FOR ME, however, because of the number of Class 4 horses he has in his stable, he had difficulty securing a race start for the horse. He said WAIT FOR ME will be better suited in races further than 1000 Metres and when it becomes more mature he will consider adding blinkers to the gear in which the horse races. W M Lai was told his riding in this race had come under notice and he was to ensure he rode all horses in a manner which did not leave any room for query. Similarly Mr Yip was told he was to ensure horses trained by him were ridden in a manner despite their lack of race experience which would leave no room for question. MOVER was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of PRIME MOVER after the race did not show any significant findings. FLYING DAGGER, CHOICE AND CHANCE and GRASS HOPPER were sent for sampling.
