Racing Incident Report

NEW TAMAR and METRO LEADER were slow to begin. SMARTY was a little slow to begin, then shortly afterwards lost further ground when steadied away from the heels of HARVEST. On jumping, MYTHIC STEED became unbalanced and lost ground after being bumped by PLEASANT JOURNEY. With the intention of being ridden in a rearward position from a wide gate, PLEASURE PLEASURE in the early stages when being restrained proved very difficult to settle, on a number of occasions got its head up, would not relax and as a consequence continued to race wide and without cover. Because of this, G Mossé, the rider of PLEASURE PLEASURE, allowed the horse to stride forward, however, it continued to race wide and without cover. On several occasions after the 900 Metres, PLEASANT JOURNEY, which was proving difficult to settle, got its head up. At the 600 Metres, RIGHT FRAAR was steadied when awkwardly placed inside the heels of PLEASURE PLEASURE and tight outside ON SHAN EXPRESS. Making the Home Turn, PLEASANT JOURNEY was awkwardly placed between METRO LEADER and RIGHT FRAAR. Also making the Home Turn, MYTHIC STEED was hampered and carried wider when awkwardly placed outside the heels of SMARTY (Apprentice H W Lai) which at this time shifted out. Apprentice Lai was told in similar circumstances he would be expected to exercise greater care. Near the 300 Metres, PLEASANT JOURNEY was awkwardly placed behind RIGHT FRAAR and outside PLEASURE PLEASURE. At the 100 Metres, PLEASANT JOURNEY and METRO LEADER bumped. SUPER MARKSMAN and HARVEST were sent for an official veterinary inspection. After the race, it was noted SUPER MARKSMAN was making an abnormal breathing noise. Following the race, HARVEST, which tailed out, was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said the horse was lame in the right front leg and also lost its left front plate. The performance of HARVEST was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, HARVEST will have to perform competitively in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. DEVON FLAIR and RIGHT FRAAR were sent for sampling.
Additional Veterinary Reports (released on 16 January 2006)
HARVEST, which performed poorly, was examined by the Senior Veterinary Officer. He said at that time the horse was lame in the right front leg. HARVEST was again examined by the Senior Veterinary Officer at the stables of Trainer C H Yip this morning. He said at this time he noted the horse was also lame in the right hind leg. As previously advised, HARVEST will have to perform competitively in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination before being allowed to race again.
