Racing Incident Report

LUCKY DIAMOND was slow to begin, then began awkwardly and bumped the inside gate of its stall. ACCELERATION was slow into stride. In the middles stages, SKYVIEW BAR hung out. Prior to straightening, SILVER MARK was shifted to the outside of VICTORY CHARIOT. In the early part of the Straight, CLASSIC HORSE got its head on the side and hung in when awkwardly placed close to the heels of SKYVIEW BAR. At the 300 Metres, LUCKY PACKET was carried wider by LUCKY DIAMOND which at this time shifted to the outside of WAFER KING to go forward. At the 50 Metres, CLASSIC HORSE, which was shifting in, was steadied away from the heels of SUPER HONEY which at this time was shifting out. No action was taken. CLASSIC HORSE then continued to race awkwardly outside the heels of SUPER HONEY which shifted further and because of this was not ridden out to the end of the race as it normally would be. Prior to the declaration of weighed-in, the Stewards considered an application from G Schofield that LUCKY PACKET had not had a fair start. The evidence including the video showed that as the start was effected, LUCKY PACKET reared and as a consequence lost ground. In those circumstances, the Stewards believed LUCKY PACKET had not had an unfair start and weighed-in was declared on the numbers as semaphored by the Judge. Whilst the Stewards were satisfied it did not affect the finishing position of the 6th placegetter, DESERT STRIKE, O Doleuze was nonetheless reminded of his obligations to ride his mounts out at least hands and heels right to the winning post. When questioned, Apprentice K L Chui (STAR OF NORTHERN) said he had been instructed to obtain a forward position with cover if possible, however, he should ensure the horse travelled where it was comfortable. He said because of the way the race was run, from a wide gate STAR OF NORTHERN was able to cross and raced outside the lead. Apprentice K H Chan who had ridden STAR OF NORTHERN at its previous two starts advised that he had been instructed to ride the horse with cover if possible. Mr K L Man, trainer of STAR OF NORTHERN, confirmed the instructions issued to Apprentice Chui and said in his opinion they were not significantly different from those which had been issued to Apprentice Chan previously. He said the circumstances of today's race led to STAR OF NORTHERN travelling further forward than it has in its recent starts. Mr Man was reminded of his obligations to have his horses ridden in a consistent manner where circumstances permit. W M Lai (AWESOME EAGLE) said shortly after straightening his mount was hampered when SILVER MARK shifted out from his inside. He said after this he shifted AWESOME EAGLE back to the inside of SILVER MARK and rode it out hands and heels whilst showing the whip. He said AWESOME EAGLE closed the race off only very fairly. W M Lai was told to ensure he fully tests his mounts where possible. WHIPLASH and AWESOME EAGLE were sent for an official veterinary inspection. After the race, WHIPLASH was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of mucopus in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, WHIPLASH will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. A veterinary inspection of AWESOME EAGLE after the race did not show any significant findings. LUCKY DIAMOND, SKYVIEW BAR and SUPER HONEY were sent for sampling.
