Racing Incident Report

After arriving at the Start, it was noted FORTUNE MAPLE had lost its right front plate during the preliminary. FORTUNE MAPLE was re-shod and examined by the Veterinary Surgeon who said in his opinion it was suitable to race. SUPER WINNER was slow to begin and shortly afterwards was steadied away from the heels of BRAINIEST. CONSTELLATION was slow to begin. ABLE MARS began awkwardly, bumped the outside gate of its stall and as a consequence lost ground. For some distance approaching and passing the 800 Metres, BRAINIEST, which was proving difficult to settle, got its head up and raced ungenerously between FORTUNE MAPLE and WISDOM EXPRESS. Making the turn at the 600 Metres, ABLE MARS became unbalanced when racing tight inside FORTUNE MAPLE which at this time was racing tight inside WISDOM EXPRESS. Making the turn at the 600 Metres and again at the 500 Metres, CONSTELLATION became unbalanced after bumping the running rail. Prior to straightening, THE FACULTY and SUPER were carried wider by CONSTELLATION which at this time shifted to the outside of BUDDIES SPIRIT into clear running. In the early part of the Straight, BALL OF FIRE proved difficult to shift out into clear running. Near the 250 Metres, THE FACULTY got its head on the side, hung in and caused some inconvenience to SUPER which at this time was giving ground. Throughout the race, SUPER MARKSMAN travelled wide and without cover and making the turn after the 600 Metres hung out badly, shifted wider on the track and in the Straight gave ground and finished tailed off. The performance of SUPER MARKSMAN was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, SUPER MARKSMAN will have to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in an official barrier trial around a bend and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. G Schofield (SUPER) said as the horse had not been finishing its races off, he had been instructed to ride the horse with cover if possible, however, if the tempo of the race was slow and he was able to dictate from the front, that would be acceptable. He said SUPER began best, shortly after the start commenced to shift in and he immediately received calling from riders to his inside. He said because of this he straightened SUPER and as he was doing this BUDDIES SPIRIT made ground on his inside, he therefore elected to allow that horse to improve through into the lead as to have cleared it at that time would have required him in his opinion to make too much use of the horse. He said SUPER travelled comfortably in the run, however, in the Straight did not close off, gave ground and performed disappointingly. SUPER was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of SUPER after the race did not show any significant findings. CONSTELLATION, BUDDIES SPIRIT and BALL OF FIRE were sent for sampling.
Additional Veterinary Reports (released on 16 February 2006)
SUPER, which performed poorly, was examined by the Senior Veterinary Officer. He said at that time there were no significant findings. SUPER was again examined by the Senior Veterinary Officer at the stables of Trainer D Cruz this morning. He said at this time he noted the horse to have a swollen right front tendon. Before being allowed to race again, SUPER will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
