Racing Incident Report
On jumping, NOBLE CRUSADER and COUNTRY MUSIC bumped. In the early stages, GREEN WARRIOR hung in. After the 400 Metres, PLANET RULER had difficulty obtaining clear running between ABLE PRINCE and GREEN WARRIOR which continued to hang in. Near the 100 Metres, ABLE PRINCE, which was giving ground, became unbalanced when awkwardly placed inside PLANET RULER. D Whyte (ABLE PRINCE) explained after being crossed by PLANET RULER after the 100 Metres, the horse got its head up and raced ungenerously. He said in the run to the line ABLE PRINCE indicated that it would shift out abruptly and whip around as it had done previously and which it did again today shortly after passing the winning post. He said because of this he did not ride ABLE PRINCE out right to the end of the race. D Whyte was told where circumstances permit he should ensure he rides his mounts out at least hands and heels to the end of the race. Mr J Moore, trainer of ABLE PRINCE, said it was now his intention to spell the horse as in his opinion it has become sour. Mr Moore was told a warning will be placed upon ABLE PRINCE regarding its manners after passing the winning post. F Coetzee (SILENT WITNESS) said at no stage of the race did the horse feel comfortable. He said in the early stages SILENT WITNESS was not able to maintain a forward position and then failed to quicken when asked to do so. He said the galloping action of SILENT WITNESS appeared normal to him and he was not able to explain the horse's performance. Mr A S Cruz, trainer of SILENT WITNESS, said whilst the horse had problems in December, it had subsequently been given a let-up and its work on both the Riverside Gallop and in a 400 Metre jump-out leading into today's race were in his opinion good. He said on the strength of that work he expected SILENT WITNESS to win in today's race and was most disappointed by the horse's performance. He said SILENT WITNESS is a gross horse and it is hoped it would derive benefit from today's race. SILENT WITNESS was sent for an official veterinary inspection and sampling. A veterinary inspection of SILENT WITNESS after the race did not show any significant findings. COUNTRY MUSIC was sent for an official veterinary inspection. After the race, COUNTRY MUSIC was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said the horse was lame in the left hind leg and had sustained a laceration to the right hind pastern. Before being allowed to race again, COUNTRY MUSIC will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. SCINTILLATION and NATURAL BLITZ were sent for sampling.
Additional Veterinary Reports (released on 27 February 2006)
COUNTRY MUSIC, which performed poorly, was examined by the Senior Veterinary Officer. He said at that time the horse was lame in the left hind leg and had sustained a laceration to the right hind pastern. COUNTRY MUSIC was again examined by the Senior Veterinary Officer at the stables of Trainer A S Cruz this morning. He said at this time he noted the horse to be lame in both hind legs with significant lower back and rump muscle soreness. As previously advised, COUNTRY MUSIC will be subjected to an official veterinary examination before being allowed to race again.
