Racing Incident Report

After arriving at the Start, it was noted FOKINE had blood present at its mouth. The horse was examined by the Veterinary Surgeon who said it had a laceration to the tongue and in his opinion was suitable to race. On jumping, TOWN OF FIONN stumbled. With the intention of being ridden quietly, TCHAIKOVSKY was taken back in the early stages, then when racing without cover proved difficult to settle. In the Straight, SCINTILLATION (E Saint-Martin) hung in, after the 200 Metres shifted ground when not properly clear of SILENT WITNESS, causing that horse to be steadied and shifted out. E Saint-Martin was reprimanded and told in similar circumstances he would be expected to exercise greater care. When questioned, Mr J Moore, trainer of BILLET EXPRESS, said his instructions were to have the horse ridden behind the lead, however, as BILLET EXPRESS did not begin well, SILENT WITNESS was able to immediately cross the horse which then resulted in it travelling further back than anticipated. Mr Moore said he was somewhat surprised by the win of BILLET EXPRESS and he had hoped for the horse to run a placing. He said at its last start he had instructed C Soumillon who again rode the horse today from the outside barrier over the straight 1000 Metres to race on the outside rail. He said even though the rail was in the A position on that occasion, he believed the outside of the course would be superior and he had anticipated a number of runners shifting out. Mr Moore said C Soumillon had ridden BILLET EXPRESS in accordance with those instructions, however, when no other runner followed him out, BILLET EXPRESS raced by itself and in his opinion the horse is better suited with other horses around it. He said in his opinion BILLET EXPRESS racing by itself accounted for the horse's poor performance on that occasion. BILLET EXPRESS and SCINTILLATION were sent for sampling. After the race, it was reported SCINTILLATION had bled from both nostrils.
