Racing Incident Report

REGAL THRILLS began awkwardly and lost ground. WINNING PATTERN was slow to begin and was then steadied away from the heels of BULLDOZER which shifted out. From the outside barrier, WINDICATOR was taken across behind runners. Near the 1100 Metres, RED STORM RISING, which was wide on the track, was steadied and shifted across behind runners. Making the Home Turn, KIMBO KID hung out and shifter wider on the track. Over the final 200 Metres, HIGHLILLI (Apprentice K L Chui) drifted wider on the track when being ridden out. Apprentice Chui was told in similar circumstances he should endeavour to avoid allowing his mounts to shift ground unnecessarily. Near the 100 Metres, REGAL THRILLS was steadied away from the heels of RED STORM RISING which shifted out. Throughout the race, HIGHLILLI travelled wide and without cover. LUCKY WINNER and REGAL THRILLS were sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of LUCKY WINNER and REGAL THRILLS after the race did not show any significant findings. M W Leung (WINDICATOR) said he discussed with Trainer T W Leung prior to the race how the horse should be ridden from the outside barrier. He said it was felt if the horse were ridden to go forward, it would be caught racing wide and without cover. He said it was therefore decided to take WINDICATOR across behind runners at the start, ensure it was properly balanced and had cover in the hope that the horse would close the race off. He said when ridden in this manner WINDICATOR had finished strongly. He added in future if the horse drew a more favourable barrier, it has the speed to be ridden in a prominent position. BULLDOZER and RIVER JORDAN were sent for sampling. After the race, it was reported BULLDOZER had lost its left front plate.
