Racing Incident Report

TIME SUPREME and BETTER BOY were slow to begin. On jumping, SIKANDER and SHINY RIBBON bumped. Despite being ridden along in the early stages, COURAGEOUSHEART failed to muster speed. At the 1500 Metres, SHINY RIBBON was steadied when awkwardly placed between HEALTHY WEALTHY and LIBERAL'S CHOICE which momentarily shifted out. No action was taken. At the 1400 Metres, GRAND CENTRAL was steadied away from the heels of SIKANDER. After this, GRAND CENTRAL was awkwardly placed close to the heels of SIKANDER for some distance. ALL CHANCES hung out making the Home Turn. In the Home Straight, TIME SUPREME hung out. S Dye (SIKANDER) said in the early stages the horse travelled satisfactorily, however, became unbalanced in its action near the 800 Metres. He said he did lose some ground when SHINY RIBBON was not travelling well enough to hold its position at the 600 Metres, however, in the Straight SIKANDER failed to respond to his riding. He did say in the early part of the Straight SIKANDER did have some difficulty obtaining clear running between MIGHTY HUGO and BETTER BOY, however, this was of little significance. He said the manner in which SIKANDER raced indicated the horse was not suited by today's track conditions. F Coetzee said SHINY RIBBON became unbalanced and dipped on a number of occasions and in his opinion was not comfortable in today's track conditions. SHINY RIBBON was sent for an official veterinary inspection. After the race, SHINY RIBBON was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said the horse was lame in the right front leg. Before being allowed to race again, SHINY RIBBON will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. B Prebble (MIGHTY HUGO) said he was required to make use of the horse in the early stages to obtain a forward position as instructed. He said in the early stages MIGHTY HUGO did not appear to be handling today's track conditions, therefore he allowed the horse to continue in a three wide position without cover in the hope that the ground might be better away from the fence. He said MIGHTY HUGO was under pressure at the 600 Metres and started to give ground and in the Straight raced awkwardly and hung out. SIKANDER and MIGHTY HUGO were sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of SIKANDER and MIGHTY HUGO after the race did not show any significant findings. LIBERAL'S CHOICE and SOPRANO were sent for sampling.
Additional Veterinary Reports (released on 22 May 2006)
SIKANDER which performed poorly, was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said at that time there were no significant findings. SIKANDER was again examined by the Senior Veterinary Officer at the stables of Trainer C Fownes this morning. He said at this time he noted the horse to be mildly lame in the right front leg and have sustained a cut to the right front cannon.
