Racing Incident Report

There was a delay to FIGS being saddled when the girth with which M Odendaal, the horse's rider, initially weighed out was unable to be fitted to the saddle. This required the girth being replaced. Prior to the start being effected, FLYING PROFILE became fractious, then as the start was effected, got its head up and turned to the left. As a consequence, FLYING PROFILE lost a considerable amount of ground. Before being allowed to race again, FLYING PROFILE will have to perform satisfactorily in a stalls test. GREAT FORTUNE stood flat-footed and lost a considerable amount of ground at the start. For some distance after the start, MAIN ATTRACTION raced tight inside GLOBE RIVER which itself was tight inside MIRACLE DRAGON which had initially been carried in by FORTUNE GOLD. As a consequence, MAIN ATTRACTION lost ground. At the 1400 Metres, FEBURO was steadied and shifted out away from the heels of FORTUNE GOLD which itself was being steadied in an endeavour to obtain a position with cover. Approaching and passing the 1200 Metres, STAR OF NORTHERN proved difficult to settle. In the middle stages, FORTUNE GOLD was left racing without cover. Passing the 200 Metres, SHOW BRAVELY was awkwardly placed between MODERN PROSPECT and ACCOLADE which shifted in slightly. F Coetzee (GLOBE RIVER) explained when the horse raced first up last week, the intention had been to ride it in 4th or 5th position with cover. He said because GLOBE RIVER began well, he elected to allow the horse to travel outside the leader. He said when ridden this way GLOBE RIVER had disappointed by failing to close the race off. He said today because of this the intention had been to try and ride GLOBE RIVER in midfield even though it was anticipated the pace of the race would be slow. He said when ridden in this manner GLOBE RIVER closed the race off more strongly today. MAIN ATTRACTION was sent for an official veterinary inspection. After the race, MAIN ATTRACTION was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of mucopus in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, MAIN ATTRACTION will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. SUPER DANA and MIRACLE DRAGON were sent for sampling.
