Racing Incident Report

NOBLE SILENCE was slow to begin and then taken across behind runners. NOBLE CONQUEROR began awkwardly. After the 800 Metres, FANTASY was hampered and carried wider by NOBLE CONQUEROR which shifted out away from the heels of CONESTOGA which at this time itself came back away from the heels of GALLANT FALCON. From on straightening until near the 150 Metres, CONESTOGA was held up and unable to obtain clear running. At the 250 Metres, NOBLE CONQUEROR was steadied and shifted to the outside of VICTORY TURBO to obtain clear running. At the 200 Metres, the whip of F Coetzee (GALLANT FALCON) was knocked from his hand by the whip of M Nunes (FORTUNE BOY). For the major part of the race, ABLE KNIGHT travelled wide and without cover and FORTUNE BOY hung out. M W Leung (MILLION SUCCESS) explained the horse was fractious in the barriers as the gates opened and got its head up. This caused him to become unbalanced and come back on the horse's mouth, resulting in it losing a considerable amount of ground. When questioned, H K Yim (MAGIC TEMPLE) said he had been instructed to ride the horse quietly in the early stages, ensure it was properly settled and then in the Straight endeavour to obtain runs between horses towards the inside. He said in accordance with those instructions he allowed MAGIC TEMPLE to shift across to the rail behind the main body of the field. He said while making the first turn there was an opportunity for him to improve his position to be behind NOBLE CONQUEROR, he elected not to do so as he wanted to ensure MAGIC TEMPLE remained settled. He said because of this near the 1200 Metres DON RICARDO shifted to a position on the fence in front of him. He said he followed DON RICARDO into the Back Straight, near the 800 Metres MAGIC TEMPLE commenced to over-race and because of this he shifted out away from the heels of DON RICARDO. He said MAGIC TEMPLE continued to prove difficult for him to settle for some distance. He said after the 600 Metres when he was clear of MILLION SUCCESS, he shifted back to the rail as instructed. He said at this time there was an opportunity for him to improve his position to be again behind DON RICARDO, however, he did this only gradually to see if running presented itself towards the inside. He said on straightening when DON RICARDO and NOBLE CONQUEROR shifted wider, he remained racing on the fence and commenced to improve his position. He said he was hopeful CONESTOGA which he believed to be a good chance in the race would obtain a run through and he would endeavour to follow that horse. He said however CONESTOGA was not able to obtain clear running until the 100 Metres and at that stage he believed he would cost his mount further ground if he steadied and shifted out to obtain clear running, he therefore continued to ride MAGIC TEMPLE out hands and heels in the run to the line. H K Yim was severely reprimanded and told his riding of MAGIC TEMPLE had come under notice and he must ensure he rides his mounts out in a manner which is not open to query. MILLION SUCCESS and MAGIC TEMPLE were sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of MILLION SUCCESS and MAGIC TEMPLE after the race did not show any significant findings. VICTORY TURBO and NOBLE CONQUEROR were sent for sampling. After the race, it was reported FORTUNE BOY had lost its left hind plate.
