Racing Incident Report
SANBENITO and CHOICE AND CHANCE were slow to begin. MERIDIAN PRIDE was slow to begin and then lost further ground when crowded for room between LE ROSSIGNOL which shifted out and NATURAL FATCHOY which was carried in by SMART HORSE. In the early stages, when proving difficult to settle, CHOICE AND CHANCE got its head up on several occasions and after the 1200 Metres shifted out away from the heels of SMART HORSE, then raced without cover and pulled its way forward. Also in the early stages, TURF WARRIOR proved difficult to settle. From the outside barrier, ABLE KNIGHT was steadied in the early stages and taken across behind runners to a position with cover. At the 900 Metres, MERIDIAN PRIDE commenced to race ungenerously when awkwardly placed inside the heels of TURF WARRIOR, then making the turn at the 800 Metres got its head up, shifted out and was checked away from the heels of that horse. In the middle stages and in the Home Straight, LE ROSSIGNOL hung out. At the 250 Metres, NICE KING was shifted to the outside of WALKONTHEWILDSIDE into clear running. B Prebble (MERIDIAN PRIDE) said after straightening he placed his mount under pressure, however, it commenced to give ground, then near the 200 Metres became badly unbalanced in its action and because of this he did not ride it out to the end of the race. Before being allowed to race again, MERIDIAN PRIDE will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. MERIDIAN PRIDE and CHOICE AND CHANCE were sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of MERIDIAN PRIDE and CHOICE AND CHANCE after the race did not show any significant findings. WALKONTHEWILDSIDE and NICE KING were sent for sampling.
