Racing Incident Report

PAY-DAY was withdrawn on 3.2.07 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (lame left fore) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter MULTI-WIN SPIRIT (S K Sit). Before being allowed to race again, PAY-DAY will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. After arriving at the Start, it was noted BAJAN BELL had blood present at its mouth. BAJAN BELL was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said in his opinion the horse was suitable to race. CHOSEN ONE was slow to begin. Shortly after the start, HAPPY ASH and MULTI-WIN SPIRIT were steadied when crowded for room inside WITHALLMYHEART which shifted in. In the early stages, WITHALLMYHEART proved very difficult to settle. Near the 1300 Metres, RISING WIN was steadied away from the heels of BAJAN BELL which shifted in momentarily. After the 1100 Metres, HAPPY ASH, which had been ridden along to make up ground, was steadied away from the heels of DEVON FLAIR (D Whyte) which at this time shifted in whilst being steadied. D Whyte was told to exercise greater care. In the middle stages, HAPPY ASH hung out and shifter wider on the track. At the 400 Metres, SWEETIE became unbalanced when bumped by RISING WIN which shifted out. After the 400 Metres, FAIRPLAY was disappointed for running between WITHALLMYHEART which shifted out slightly and MAINLAND MASTER which in the Straight hung in. CHOSEN ONE, which was following, had some difficulty obtaining clear running. Also after the 400 Metres, DRAGON INN was awkwardly placed close to the heels of MAINLAND MASTER. Throughout the race, DEVON FLAIR travelled wide and without cover. After passing the winning post, NOBLE RAIDER broke down. S Dye (MAINLAND MASTER) said initially it had been the intention to have the horse ridden in a rearward position as at its last start when racing forward MAINLAND MASTER would not relax and as a consequence failed to finish the race of as expected. He did say however after close examination due to the anticipated lack of pace in the race it was decided to have the horse ridden in 4th or 5th position if possible with cover. He said MAINLAND MASTER began well, in the early stages proved very difficult for him to settle and as a consequence was not able to obtain cover and failed to finish the race off. He added in his opinion MAINLAND MASTER would be better suited ridden quietly in races of a stronger tempo. MAINLAND MASTER was sent for an official veterinary inspection and sampling. RISING WIN was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of MAINLAND MASTER after the race did not show any significant findings. After the race, RISING WIN was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of mucopus in the horse's trachea. BAJAN BELL and WITHALLMYHEART were sent for sampling.
