Racing Incident Report

GENERAL DANSKE was withdrawn on 5.2.07 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (substantial amount of blood in trachea) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter COME HO CHOI. RAMPANT LION was withdrawn on raceday morning by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (respiratory disease). Before being allowed to race again, GENERAL DANSKE and RAMPANT LION will both be subjected to an official veterinary examination. SPOKESMAN was slow to begin, then shortly afterwards was checked away from the heels of WONDERFUL BLESSING which shifted out. After the 1600 Metres, COME HO CHOI was checked when crowded for room between NICKU NICKU which initially was carried out by SPACED, then after having been bumped on the hindquarters was turned outwards and shifted further and TRIUMPHANT DIAMOND which was hampered and carried in by PRIMIATA (Apprentice H W Lai) which got its head on the side and shifted away from RIGHT CHOICE despite the efforts of its rider. In the circumstances, no action was taken. Near the 1500 Metres, PRIMIATA, which had been racing ungenerously, was checked when crowded for room between TRIUMPHANT DIAMOND which shifted out slightly and RIGHT CHOICE (O Doleuze) which shifted in when not clear. In the circumstances, O Doleuze was severely reprimanded. Approaching the winning post on the first occasion, WONDERFUL BLESSING was steadied and shifted out away from the heels of DRAGON STRIDE. Passing the winning post on the first occasion, DRAGON STRIDE was steadied to avoid the heels of SUDDEN SPLENDOR (Apprentice C W Wong) which shifted in when not properly clear. Apprentice Wong was reprimanded and advised to exercise greater care. When DRAGON STRIDE steadied, WONDERFUL BLESSING which was following was shifted out to avoid that horse's heels. Shortly after this, COME HO CHOI, PRIMIATA and RIGHT CHOICE were crowded for room inside DRAGON STRIDE. As a consequence, RIGHT CHOICE was steadied. Approaching the 1200 Metres, COME HO CHOI was steadied away from the heels of NICKU NICKU. At the 1100 Metres, NICKU NICKU was steadied away from the heels of SPACED. For a considerable part of the race, particularly making the turns, TRIUMPHANT DIAMOND which had been ridden in a forward position hung out. On straightening, SPOKESMAN was steadied and shifted out away from the heels of RIGHT CHOICE. Shortly after straightening, PRIMIATA was steadied and shifted out away from the heels of SUDDEN SPLENDOR which was giving ground. From on straightening until after the 200 Metres, NICKU NICKU was held up and unable to obtain clear running, then approaching the winning post improved close to the heels of SPACED and because of this was not ridden out to the end of the race as it normally would be. For the major part of the race, GLORIOUS RHYTHM travelled wide and without cover. When questioned regarding tonight's improved performance of the winner, SPACED, Mr C H Yip, trainer of the horse, said recently SPACED had raced over distances of further than the 1650 Metres tonight. He said at its last start SPACED travelled wide and without cover for the major part of the race and then in the Straight gave ground. He said following this race he decided SPACED might be better suited racing over a shorter distance, because of this he eased up on the horse's work. He said tonight's race over a lesser distance in his opinion was more suitable for SPACED. B Prebble (WONDERFUL BLESSING) said as he had explained previously the horse performs best when able to settle in its races. He said because of this in the early stages when WONDERFUL BLESSING did not show natural gate speed, he did not ride along to go forward as the horse appeared relaxed. He said he did receive some inconvenience in the early stages of the race which resulted in him racing further back than he would have liked. He went on to say while WONDERFUL BLESSING was relaxed in the early stages, because of the slow tempo of the race, after entering the Back Straight when racing without cover the horse commenced to race keenly and he felt rather than restraining it, it would be better suited in the circumstances being allowed to travel forward when being ridden along. SPOKESMAN was sent for an official veterinary inspection. After the race, SPOKESMAN was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, SPOKESMAN will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. TRIUMPHANT DIAMOND, SPACED and COME HO CHOI were sent for sampling.
