Racing Incident Report

With the intention of being ridden quietly, ABLE KNIGHT on jumping was steadied and taken across behind runners. BIG KAHUNA began awkwardly and lost ground. On jumping, HURRICANE WAY was crowded for room between CHOICE AND CHANCE and ARISTOCRACY which shifted out. At the 800 Metres, MOONGLOW was left racing without cover. Making the turn after the 800 Metres, HOLD HANDS hung in and near the 700 Metres became unbalanced and shifted in abruptly. When HOLD HANDS shifted in, some inconvenience was caused to PLENTY OF TALENT. Making the Home Turn and in the early part of the Straight, HOLD HANDS was awkwardly placed close to the heels of BIG KAHUNA. On straightening, GLOBAL LEADER was steadied and shifted to the outside of ABLE KNIGHT. At the 350 Metres, GLOBAL LEADER was checked to avoid the heels of ABLE KNIGHT which itself was checked and shifted out abruptly away from the heels of RIVER TANGO which initially was carried wider by BIG KAHUNA (B Prebble) and then shifted further away from that horse. Whilst the Stewards accepted RIVER TANGO had contributed to this incident, B Prebble was nonetheless told to exercise care. Approaching and passing the 300 Metres, CLOVIS was held up and unable to obtain clear running between CHOICE AND CHANCE and GOLDEN CROWN. At the 150 Metres, MOONGLOW, which was commencing to give ground, was steadied when awkwardly placed between BIG KAHUNA and CHINA HERO. Over the concluding stages, GLOBAL LEADER raced tight outside ABLE KNIGHT which was drifting outwards. When questioned, W M Lai (CHOICE AND CHANCE) said today he had been instructed to endeavour to find cover with the horse if possible. He said CHOICE AND CHANCE began well, almost immediately proved difficult to settle and when BUDDIES POWER crossed to race outside it continued forward into the lead. He said after reaching the lead today he endeavoured to steady the pace, however, CHOICE AND CHANCE continued to race ungenerously. As Mr T W Leung, the trainer of CHOICE AND CHANCE, was not available, the Stewards will interview him regarding the riding instructions issued for the horse today as compared to its most recent starts. GOLDEN CROWN was sent for an official veterinary inspection and sampling. After the race, GOLDEN CROWN was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said the horse was displaying an irregular heart beat. Before being allowed to race again, GOLDEN CROWN will have to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. BIG KAHUNA and HOLD HANDS were sent for sampling.
Additional Veterinary Reports (released on 12 February 2007)
GOLDEN CROWN, which performed poorly, was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said at that time the horse was displaying an irregular heart beat. GOLDEN CROWN was again examined by the Head of Veterinary Regulation & International Liaison at the stables of Trainer J Size yesterday morning. He said at this time he noted the horse to have an injury to the left front tendon. As previously advised, GOLDEN CROWN will have to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination before being allowed to race again.
