Racing Incident Report

After arriving at the Start, CENAMIRA, which had its right hind plate refitted in the saddling stalls, was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said in his opinion it was suitable to race. DENDRANTHEMA LOVE was slow to begin. A BETTER DRAGON began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped CENAMIRA. PLEASURE PLEASURE began awkwardly. Because of this, B Prebble lost the use of his right stirrup which he took some time to re-gather. As a consequence, PLEASURE PLEASURE was not ridden to go forward in the early stages and was left racing wide and without cover. PLEASURE PLEASURE then went forward after the 1200 Metres. Approaching the winning post on the first occasion, A BETTER DRAGON was checked when crowded for room between CENAMIRA which had been taken in slightly by SWEETIE which got its head on the side and shifted away from BAYVIEW LAD and DANRIVA which shifted out slightly when being steadied away from the heels of PILLOW KING which shifted in when barely clear. In the circumstances, no action was taken. After the 600 Metres, A BETTER DRAGON was tightened for room inside CENAMIRA which at this time was racing tight inside HONG KONG GEM. Shortly after straightening, A BETTER DRAGON was checked when crowded for room between DANRIVA which shifted out and CENAMIRA which shifted in. In this incident, A BETTER DRAGON was bumped by CENAMIRA. In the circumstances, no action was taken. Approaching the 200 Metres, DENDRANTHEMA LOVE was shifted out to find clear running. D Nikolic (TOUCH DOWN) explained when the horse was successful at its last start it had drawn more favourably and the race was run to suit. He said on that occasion he felt TOUCH DOWN was entitled to win more comfortably than it did. He said tonight from a wider gate the manner in which the race was run meant that he was not able to find a position on the rail. He said after entering the Back Straight TOUCH DOWN was left racing three wide and without cover in what was a moderately run race. He said TOUCH DOWN was a beaten horse after the 600 Metres and when the field quickened shortly afterwards was left flat-footed and then gave ground. TOUCH DOWN and BAYVIEW LAD were sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of TOUCH DOWN and BAYVIEW LAD after the race did not show any significant findings. PILLOW KING and A BETTER DRAGON were sent for sampling.
