Racing Incident Report

WORLD SERIES was withdrawn on 2.3.07 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (lame right hind hock) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter FAIRPLAY (A Starke). Before being allowed to race again, WORLD SERIES will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. THREE CLUBS began awkwardly and lost ground. With the intention of being ridden quietly, JOY AND TREASURE was taken across behind runners. Shortly after the start, HURRICANE WAY, which had begun awkwardly, lost further ground when crowded for room between TELECOM TYCOON and SHOW BRAVELY which shifted in after being brushed by OPTIC KING. In the early stages, OPTIC KING proved difficult to settle. Despite being ridden along in the early stages, SHOW BRAVELY failed to muster speed and then travelled wide and without cover throughout. Near the 800 Metres, SPARKLE, which was being hard ridden to maintain its position, was momentarily steadied away from the heels of OPTIC KING which at this time was carried in by FRAMES DEPOT. Prior to straightening, JOY AND TREASURE was steadied when awkwardly placed outside RISING WIN and inside the heels of SHOW BRAVELY which at this time commenced to give ground. Approaching the 300 Metres, THREE CLUBS was steadied and shifted out when disappointed for running between HURRICANE WAY and SHOW BRAVELY which continued to give ground. When questioned regarding the improved performance of DANEPRINT, Trainer C H Yip said the horse had been performing consistently with the exception of its most recent start. He said on that occasion as always he had instructed the rider to obtain a position with cover as the horse had previously performed poorly when travelling wide. He said from a wide draw DANEPRINT which had begun awkwardly was taken further back than is usual in an attempt to follow the riding instructions, however, in the early stages was obliged to race without cover. He said for a short distance approaching the 1000 Metres DANEPRINT did obtain cover, however, after the 1000 Metres a number of horses were interfered with due to another runner breaking down. He said as a consequence of this DANEPRINT was shifted wider on the track and did not have cover. He said in his opinion the manner in which the race was run accounted for DANEPRINT's poor performance at its most recent start. THREE CLUBS, DANEPRINT and TELECOM TYCOON were sent for sampling.
