Racing Incident Report

A MIRROR was withdrawn on 22.5.07 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (swollen right fore tendon). Before being allowed to race again, A MIRROR will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. CHINESE BOY BOY and SUPER POWER were slow to begin. At the 1500 Metres, SPEEDING MOLLY was bumped by SUPER FANTASY which when proving difficult to settle shifted out after being bumped by FIRST KNIGHT which was carried wider by RED WINE HONEY which after being bumped on the hindquarters shifted out. After this, SUPER FANTASY continued to prove difficult to settle. Passing the 1200 Metres, RED WINE HONEY was crowded for room inside SPIRIT OF LO PAN which got its head on the side and hung in away from HOLD HANDS. On straightening, SOUTH BREEZE was steadied and shifted to the outside of CHEERFUL HAPPINESS into clear running. Also on straightening, NICKU NICKU, which was having difficulty obtaining clear running, was steadied and shifted in away from the heels of SPEEDING MOLLY. When giving ground after the 200 Metres, WIN FOR ALL was tightened for room between RED WINE HONEY and SPIRIT OF LO PAN. For the majority of the Home Straight, FIRST KNIGHT did not obtain clear running and because of this was not fully tested. When questioned, W M Lai (CHEERFUL HAPPINESS) explained from the outside barrier he had been instructed to obtain a position with cover on the horse which was anticipated to be behind midfield. He said he had been advised by the connections that they had been disappointed with the manner in which CHEERFUL HAPPINESS had been finishing its races off when being ridden in a forward position. Mr T W Leung, trainer of CHEERFUL HAPPINESS, confirmed the instructions issued to W M Lai and said he had been disappointed with the manner in which CHEERFUL HAPPINESS had been finishing its recent races off. He believed if CHEERFUL HAPPINESS were able to obtain a position in midfield with cover, it would enable the horse to finish the race off strongly. He did say COME HO CHOI, a horse trained by him which was successful in Race 1 today, had travelled in a rearward position and he felt having CHEERFUL HAPPINESS ridden in this manner would not place it at a disadvantage. Mr Leung was told the riding instructions issued to W M Lai by him on this occasion in the circumstances of this race bordered on placing him in breach of the Rules and that he should ensure horses trained by him are ridden in a consistent manner where circumstances permit. SPEEDING MOLLY, WIN FOR ALL and SPIRIT OF LO PAN were sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of SPEEDING MOLLY, WIN FOR ALL and SPIRIT OF LO PAN after the race did not show any significant findings. SOUTH BREEZE and NICKU NICKU were sent for sampling.
