Racing Incident Report

FASTER FASTER was slow to begin and shortly after the start was steadied away from the heels of GOOD TO GREAT which was taken out by WINNING CHAMP which shifted out after beginning awkwardly. FRIENDS FOREVER was slow to begin and then despite being ridden along in the early stages failed to muster speed and consequently raced well back. WAFER KING began awkwardly. Making the turn at the 1000 Metres, BEAMING RIVER hung out across the heels of WAFER KING, resulting in the horse becoming badly unbalanced and being checked. Near the 900 Metres, GOOD TO GREAT was bumped by STRIKE TO WIN which shifted in when racing close to the heels of JET RISE. Approaching and passing the 800 Metres, FASTER FASTER proved difficult to settle and was awkwardly placed close to the heels of STRIKE TO WIN. Passing the 500 Metres, PROFIT HILL raced close to the heels of GOOD TO GREAT and shifted out, resulting in STRIKE TO WIN being crowded for room inside WAFER KING. For some distance after this, PROFIT HILL was awkwardly placed close to the heels of JET RISE. Rounding the Home Turn, FRIENDS FOREVER was momentarily steadied away from the heels of FASTER FASTER. From the 300 Metres until near the 50 Metres, FASTER FASTER was unable to obtain clear running. Near the 200 Metres, STRIKE TO WIN was steadied when crowded for room between WAFER KING and PROFIT HILL (F Coetzee) which shifted out. F Coetzee was advised to exercise care in similar circumstances. Throughout the race, WAFER KING travelled wide and without cover. When questioned regarding A-TACK being ridden back in the field tonight, Apprentice H W Lai stated at its most recent start the horse was ridden in a forward position from barrier 11, was unable to obtain cover, however, travelled wide and without cover throughout and in the Straight gave ground. He said for this reason from barrier 10 tonight he was advised to ride the horse to ensure it was able to obtain cover. He said because of this at the start he took hold of A-TACK, shifted across behind runners in the early stages and in the Straight closed the race off nicely. GOOD TO GREAT, RACING SPIRIT and A-TACK were sent for sampling.
