Racing Incident Report

After arriving at the Start, E Saint-Martin (HIGH POINT) expressed concern over the horse's action. HIGH POINT was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said in his opinion the horse was suitable to race. Subsequently E Saint-Martin expressed his ongoing concern over the horse's action and said he did not wish to ride HIGH POINT in the race. Acting on this advice, the Stewards ordered the withdrawal of HIGH POINT. Following the race, E Saint-Martin reported to the Stewards during the preliminary HIGH POINT was short in its action. The Stewards also questioned B Prebble who had been riding HIGH POINT in its work in the lead up to today's race. He said in his opinion the work of HIGH POINT on the 1800 Metre gallop last Monday was only fair and he reported this to Mr C S Shum, trainer of the horse. He said because of the final gallop of HIGH POINT, he therefore decided to ride NAMJONG FIGHTERS in this race in preference to HIGH POINT. Mr Shum said following HIGH POINT's gallop last Monday, B Prebble had informed him of his concern regarding the quality of the horse's work. He said because of this he had HIGH POINT examined by the Veterinary Surgeon including an endoscopic examination and a blood profile and was advised there were no significant findings. He said after consulting with the owner of HIGH POINT, the decision was taken to enter the horse for this race. He said after the horse's gallop last Monday, HIGH POINT had been restricted to slow work only. He did say HIGH POINT had trotted up soundly during the pre-race veterinary examination and in his opinion was suitable to race today. Mr Shum was told his explanation would be reported and that before being permitted to race again, HIGH POINT will have to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official examination. CHOICE AND CHANCE began awkwardly and lost a considerable amount of ground at the start. CLASSA WIN was slow to begin. For some distance after the 400 Metres, EIGHT PLUS NINE, which commenced to close the race off, was held up and unable to improve when racing behind RELY ON ME which was giving ground. Close to the line, SPARKLING STAR was awkwardly placed between NAMJONG FIGHTERS and KING OF FISH. Because of this, SPARKLING STAR was not ridden out to the end of the race. H K Yim (KING OF FISH) said after the 400 Metres he hit his mount with the whip and it immediately commenced to hang in, he therefore rode his mount out hands and heels. He did say KING OF FISH continued to hang in for the remainder of the race. NORTHERN HERO, HIGH POINT and RELY ON ME were sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of NORTHERN HERO and HIGH POINT after the race did not show any significant findings. After the race, RELY ON ME was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said the horse had bled from both nostrils. MARIBEAU, ENCHANTED and NAMJONG FIGHTERS were sent for sampling.
