Racing Incident Report

AMBITIOUS OWNER was slow to begin, then lost further ground as a result of being checked when crowded for room between BEAUTY PLUS which on jumping shifted out and ONE WORLD which shifted in after making contact with NEW CHAPTER. CARE FREE PRINCE and FEVER PITCH began awkwardly. THE WORLD OF LOVE began awkwardly, stumbled, threw its head up and as a result hit O Doleuze, its rider, in the face. After this, THE WORLD OF LOVE was taken across behind runners. In the early stages, ONE WORLD proved difficult to settle. After the 1000 Metres, GALEN WIN got its head up when being steadied away from the heels of BOOMING CITY. At the 900 Metres, BLUE SAINT blundered when racing awkwardly close to the heels of MACHO EXPRESSO. At the 800 Metres, BLUE SAINT was left racing wide and without cover. Making the turn at the 800 Metres, ROCKET POWER got its head up when being steadied after being initially crowded for room inside MACHO EXPRESSO (D Whyte) which shifted in momentarily before being shifted out to relieve pressure. After this, ROCKET POWER again got its head up when being steadied away from the heels of MACHO EXPRESSO. D Whyte was advised to exercise greater care. In the middle stages, BOOMING CITY travelled wide and without cover. At the 500 Metres, BEAUTY PLUS was steadied when crowded for room inside SURE JOY which was racing tight inside THE WORLD OF LOVE which at this time improved to the inside of DOUBLE LUCK. No action was taken. After the 500 Metres, FEVER PITCH was steadied away from the heels of DOUBLE LUCK which at this time shifted out when being steadied away from the heels of BLUE SAINT. At the 400 Metres, CARE FREE PRINCE was steadied and shifted to the outside of GALEN WIN into clear running. At the 300 Metres, BOOMING CITY and FEVER PITCH bumped. After the 200 Metres, BEAUTY PLUS hung out. D Beadman (ONE WORLD) explained prior to straightening THE WORLD OF LOVE improved on his outside. He said on straightening he endeavoured to shift away from the rail, however, he was not able to shift to the outside of ROCKET POWER without causing interference to THE WORLD OF LOVE. He said as a result of this he was held up for running behind MACHO EXPRESSO and ROCKET POWER for some distance after straightening. He said at the 300 Metres when THE WORLD OF LOVE shifted out, he was inside the heels of ROCKET POWER and as a result he would have been required to steady ONE WORLD and lose ground to shift to the outside of ROCKET POWER at that time. He said he decided against doing this, however, after the 200 Metres when clear running had not presented itself for him, he then steadied ONE WORLD and shifted to the outside of ROCKET POWER. He said as he did this, ROCKET POWER shifted out which would have enabled clear running to the inside of that horse. He said because of the circumstances of the race he was not able to properly test ONE WORLD. The explanation of D Beadman was reported. Apprentice C W Wong (SURE JOY) said he was instructed to have the horse travelling in a position where it was relaxed. He said because of this he did not ride SURE JOY along in the early stages and travelled in a midfield position. He said he was not able to shift out into clear running in the early part of the Straight, as a consequence of this SURE JOY was held up for a short distance approaching the 300 Metres. He said afterwards SURE JOY responded only fairly to his riding. He said in his opinion SURE JOY is best suited when able to see daylight in the Straight and is not suited following other runners when being ridden out. When questioned regarding the improved performance of FEVER PITCH, Trainer C Fownes explained the work of the horse has improved considerably since its last start. He said since arriving in Hong Kong FEVER PITCH has been a nervous horse, however, is now showing signs of settling and coming into itself. He attributed today’s improved performance to the natural progression of the horse. SURE JOY, MACHO EXPRESSO and NEW CHAPTER were sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of SURE JOY and MACHO EXPRESSO after the race did not show any significant findings. After the race, NEW CHAPTER was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said there were no significant findings other than the horse had lost its right front plate. ONE WORLD, FEVER PITCH and DOUBLE LUCK were sent for sampling.
