Racing Incident Report

MASTER POWER bounded in the air at the start and lost ground. HURRICANE DASH began awkwardly and lost ground. Despite being ridden along in the early stages, HELENE PILLAGING failed to muster speed. In the early and middle stages, HONGKONG SUPERSTAR proved difficult to settle. Near the 1100 Metres, MASTER POWER got its head up when being steadied while awkwardly placed inside the heels of GRAND STORE. Near the 200 Metres, ABOVE ALL was steadied and shifted out away from the heels of HURRICANE DASH. After the 50 Metres, HONGKONG SUPERSTAR got its head on the side and shifted ground while hanging out. Because of this, D Whyte, its rider, stopped riding and straightened his mount. In the Straight, VICTORY STYLE hung in. Throughout the race, REGENCY HORSE travelled wide and without cover. C K Tong (ABOVE ALL) explained he had been instructed to ride the horse which was having its second race start in Hong Kong where it was comfortable and to have the horse relaxed. He said ABOVE ALL began well from a wide barrier, he immediately took hold of his mount in an endeavour to have it settle and travel comfortably. He said to avoid being caught wide and to ensure he had a position with cover he took ABOVE ALL back to race with the rear. He said ABOVE ALL travelled a little keenly and then in the Straight when under pressure raced greenly and because of this he did not pull the whip on his mount. He said ABOVE ALL showed immaturity in the manner in which it raced. G Boss (HURRICANE DASH) explained after arriving at the Start he noticed the horse had its tongue over the bit. This was corrected by the Veterinary Officer prior to HURRICANE DASH being loaded. He said HURRICANE DASH began awkwardly and lost ground, he then rode along to take up a forward position. He said after obtaining a position behind the leaders near the 1200 Metres, HURRICANE DASH commenced to over-race and would not settle for him. He said HURRICANE DASH continued to race ungenerously for a considerable distance, he then after the 600 Metres commenced to ride HURRICANE DASH along in an endeavour to hold its position. He said shortly after straightening HURRICANE DASH commenced to give ground quickly, became unbalanced in its action and did not appear to be breathing normally. He said because of this over the final 300 Metres he did not ride HURRICANE DASH out. He said on pulling up following the race he noted HURRICANE DASH again had its tongue over the bit. Mr P F Yiu, trainer of HURRICANE WAY, said he will experiment with a tongue tie on the horse during track work before considering whether or not to apply this gear to the horse for the next start. HURRICANE DASH was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of HURRICANE DASH after the race did not show any significant findings. KINGS FALCON and GALEN WIN were sent for sampling.
