Racing Incident Report

NICE KING was slow to begin. H W Lai (DEVON JOY) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that near the 1200 Metres he permitted his mount to shift in at an acute angle which resulted in DEVON JOY shifting in and making heavy contact with SCOOT DA LOOT, causing both DEVON JOY and SCOOT DA LOOT to become badly unbalanced. H W Lai was suspended from riding in races for a period to expire on Thursday, 13 January 2011 on which day he may resume race riding (2 Hong Kong racedays). The commencement of the suspension was deferred until after the Happy Valley racemeeting next Wednesday, 5 January 2011. For some distance passing the 1000 Metres, KIMBERLEY proved very difficult to settle and was checked away from the heels of NICE KING. A charge of careless riding was issued against J Lloyd (NICE KING) in that near the 900 Metres he failed to make sufficient effort to prevent his mount from shifting in which resulted in WATCH FIRST being checked when crowded for room inside NICE KING. J Lloyd pleaded not guilty to the charge. After hearing further submissions from J Lloyd in respect of this matter, the Stewards were of the view that the charge of careless riding should not be sustained and therefore it was not proceeded with. However, J Lloyd was severely reprimanded and advised to ensure that he makes very endeavour to leave sufficient racing room for his fellow riders in future. Near the 100 Metres, THE KID (N Callan) shifted out and bumped DAYLIGHT EXPRESS which became unbalanced. THE KID then continued to shift out and close to the finishing line again made contact with DAYLIGHT EXPRESS. N Callan will be spoken to prior to the first race at the Happy Valley racemeeting next Wednesday, 5 January 2011 and advised that he must make every effort to prevent his mounts from shifting out in future. The performances of SHARP BOY and DEVON JOY, which finished tailed out, were considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, SHARP BOY and DEVON JOY will both be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. A veterinary inspection of DEVON JOY after the race revealed that the horse had sustained an abrasion to the nose. BAYVIEW GREYSLEW, SAMMY’S FORTUNE and SPEEDY were sent for sampling.
