Racing Incident Report

As the start was effected, GOOD JOB lifted its front feet off the ground and consequently was slow to begin. FIERCE FORCE began awkwardly and lost ground. After the 1200 Metres, GOOD JOB got its head on up on a number of occasions and shifted in when proving difficult to settle. Then near the 1000 Metres, GOOD JOB continued to over-race and shifted out away from the heels of CONQUEROR, resulting in CARISSIMA being taken wider. Passing the 700 Metres, POLYMER POWER became unbalanced when awkwardly placed close to the heels of WINFINDER. After the 600 Metres, CARISSIMA was checked away from the heels of GOOD JOB which got its head on the side when awkwardly placed near the heels of CONQUEROR. Near the 400 Metres, BIG WINNER AGAIN and GRAND GENERAL made contact as BIG WINNER AGAIN obtained a tight run between that horse and GLITTERING. When questioned, Y T Cheng stated that he was under specific instructions today, as he has been previously, to ride POLYGOLD quietly in the early stages and to ensure that the horse was able to make its finishing run down the outside if at all possible. He said from barrier 3, he was told not to obtain a position on the fence but rather he was to remain racing away from the fence which would provide the horse with the opportunity to shift to the outside of runners at the earliest opportunity. He said because of these explicit instructions, he remained racing in a one-off position behind and inside GOOD JOB in the early and middle stages despite there being an opportunity to shift to the fence and follow STAR OF CHIU TON which was racing some lengths in advance of POLYGOLD. He added that he allowed POLYGOLD to continue racing in this position and rounding the Home Turn he immediately directed POLYGOLD to the outside of the heels of runners in front to make its finishing run down the outside as he was instructed. Trainer T W Leung confirmed the instructions he had given to Jockey Cheng and stated that he was of the firm opinion that POLYGOLD races best when ridden in this manner as evidenced by its only success at Sha Tin on 6 March 2011. After the race, J Lloyd (CARISSIMA) reported that the horse was making an abnormal respiratory noise during the race. An endoscopic examination of CARISSIMA after the race did not reveal any significant findings. A veterinary inspection of POLYGOLD and GOOD JOB after the race did not show any significant findings. FIERCE FORCE, BIG WINNER AGAIN and GLITTERING were sent for sampling.
