Racing Incident Report
GLORY OF INDIA was difficult to load and then began awkwardly. Before being allowed to race again, GLORY OF INDIA will be required to perform satisfactorily in a stalls test. MR MARFACH and TELECOM SUPREMO were hampered shortly after the start by NOBLE DE BEST which shifted in. Near the 1300 Metres, TELECOM SUPREMO shifted out and bumped GOOD THINKER. Approaching the 600 Metres, NOBLE DE BEST got its head on the side and hung out across the heels of INDUSTRIAL LEGEND despite the efforts of its rider, O Doleuze. GLOBAL FAME, which was positioned to the outside of NOBLE DE BEST, was checked when crowded for room between that horse and TELECOM SUPREMO. After this, NOBLE DE BEST continued to get its head on the side and lay out rounding the Home Turn. GLOBAL FAME was unable to obtain clear running in the early part of the Straight. Then over the concluding stages, GLOBAL FAME was again held up for clear running when unable to improve into tight running between GOOD THINKER and GLORY OF INDIA which shifted in. Because of this, GLOBAL FAME was not able to be properly tested in the Straight. Passing the 200 Metres, NAUGHTY BABY was steadied when crowded for room between GLORY OF INDIA which had its head on the side and shifted in slightly and GLOBAL FAME (M L Yeung) which shifted out in an endeavour to find clear running. M L Yeung was severely reprimanded and advised that whilst there was a minor contribution to this incident from GLORY OF INDIA, nonetheless he must show due care when shifting ground in similar circumstances. When questioned, Y T Cheng stated that he had been instructed to take up a forward position on TELECOM SUPREMO and it was felt that the horse may be able to obtain a position either inside or outside of FERRABOSCO which was anticipated would also race in a forward position. He said after being hampered at the start inside NOBLE DE BEST, TELECOM SUPREMO did not show any early speed despite being vigorously ridden along. He said for this reason TELECOM SUPREMO, in the early stages, was further back in the field than had been intended. He said passing the 1400 Metres he was racing in a position one horse off the fence behind GLOBAL FAME and near the 1300 Metres he elected to shift out from behind that horse as he was aware and it had previously been explained to him that TELECOM SUPREMO is one-paced and appreciates room to gallop. He said TELECOM SUPREMO has previously shown that it races well in these circumstances, most noticeably when the horse was successful at Happy Valley on 28 March 2012 when he rode it. He added that after electing to shift out from behind GLOBAL FAME into clear running near the 1300 Metres, he gave consideration to improving his position closer to the lead, however, although the pace of the race was slow at the time, he felt that he would have had to make too much use of TELECOM SUPREMO to improve his position around INDUSTRIAL LEGEND and then clear that horse to shift in. He said for this reason he continued to race in a three wide position without cover. Trainer L Ho confirmed the instructions given to Jockey Cheng and also that it is his opinion that TELECOM SUPREMO is a one-paced horse which appreciates clear running. He said he has previously explained this to Jockey Cheng who is familiar with the horse. He added that, given the circumstances of the race in the early stages, he was satisfied with the manner in which TELECOM SUPREMO was ridden today. When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of DANZULU, A Suborics stated that his mount travelled only fairly in the early and middle stages, however, this was not of concern to him. He said that near the 600 Metres he rode his mount along in an attempt to prevent GLORY OF INDIA improving its position around DANZULU, however, despite being ridden along, DANZULU did not respond and failed to quicken. He said for this reason GLORY OF INDIA was able to improve around DANZULU. He added that rounding the Home Turn and in the early part of the Straight DANZULU raced in restricted room between GLORY OF INDIA and NAUGHTY BABY and at the entrance to the Straight DANZULU made contact with the hindquarters of GLORY OF INDIA. He said, in his opinion, DANZULU did not appear to appreciate racing between runners in the early part of the Straight, however, when shifted to the outside of runners after the 200 Metres after being steadied away from the heels of NAUGHTY BABY, DANZULU did not finish off the race as he expected. He said, in his opinion, DANZULU was disappointing today. A veterinary inspection of DANZULU after the race did not show any significant findings, however, an endoscopic examination was unable to be conducted on the horse. A veterinary inspection of NOBLE DE BEST after the race did not show any significant findings. GOOD THINKER and GLORY OF INDIA were sent for sampling.
