Racing Incident Report

Whilst proceeding to the barriers, T Queally was dislodged from DELIGHT FORTUNE. DELIGHT FORTUNE then travelled a short distance riderless before being recaptured. On arrival at the Start, DELIGHT FORTUNE was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said in his opinion it was suitable to race.
After being loaded, VINTAGE HUSSLER lunged at the front gates, got down behind and then became cast underneath the barriers. As it then took some time to remove VINTAGE HUSSLER from underneath the barriers, the remainder of the field was removed from the barriers. The field was then unable to be reloaded for a significant period of time whilst VINTAGE HUSSLER underwent veterinary attention. As a consequence, the start of this event was delayed considerably.
ATACX began awkwardly.
EXCITING DREAM and MEDIC SWORDSMAN were slow to begin.
Near the 500 Metres, EXCITING DREAM was shifted in away from the heels of FORMULA WON which itself was shifted in when awkwardly placed close to the heels of DELIGHT FORTUNE.
For a distance after the 350 Metres, SIR EAGLES and HAWTHORNE raced tight.
N Callan, the rider of 5th placegetter, ATACX, pleaded guilty to a charge of having failed to ride his mount out to the end of the race to the satisfaction of the Stewards [Rule 100(2)]. In the circumstances of this matter and having in mind the margin between the 4th placing and the 5th placing, the Stewards believed the appropriate penalty was for N Callan’s licence to ride in races be suspended for a period to expire on Monday, 11 March 2013 on which day he may resume race riding (3 Hong Kong racedays). The commencement of the suspension was deferred until after the Happy Valley racemeeting on Wednesday, 27 February 2013.
When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of WINNIE’S HORSE, G Mossé stated that, in his opinion, the horse was not suited by dropping back in distance to the 1000 Metres of today’s race. He said he had to ride WINNIE’S HORSE along in the early stages in order to have it as forward as possible, however, he was not able to obtain a position better than midfield. He said as far out as the 800 Metres WINNIE’S HORSE was under pressure to maintain its position and, in his opinion, because of the tempo of the race, the horse was not able to get balanced and travel comfortably. He said he placed WINNIE’S HORSE under pressure after the 400 Metres, however, it did not respond to his riding. He added, after the race, he recommended to connections that they consider stepping WINNIE’S HORSE back up in distance where it had shown in the past that it was able to travel more comfortably. A veterinary inspection of WINNIE’S HORSE immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
GOLD EDITION and HAWTHORNE were sent for sampling.
